The two children huddled in the corner of the darkened room shivering in utter fear. The sound of explosions and crumbling buildings echoed through out the soon to be empty city of Ishbal. A small candle burned low on a table in the center of the room creating monstrosities on the cracked walls but they knew the only monsters were outside. A small whimper escapes from one of the children as their mother enters. Her shoulder length brown hair nearly stands on end in wild tangles. Dirt smears her already brown skin as she walks briskly to her children taking them in her arms.
"Hush now my darlings. It will be over soon." She said trying to keep her voice steady as she desperately tries to keep her eyes from welling over. Another explosion this time much closer than the others had been. "It will all be over soon."
Small arms wrap around her neck as she begins to hum a soft tune and rock gently soothing them nearly to sleep. The sound of the door being kicked opened caused the three to jump. Instinctively the woman stands in front of her children who fall back into their dark corner.
The man that has entered is young, no more than nineteen she would guess if that. His raven black hair and onyx eyes reflect ominously in the candlelight. She takes a defensive stance as he glances around his silver pocket watch hanging loosely on its chain threatening to fall from his pocket. The blue attire the woman has come to hate adorns him marking him a military man and worse one of the state alchemists that had been sent to erase her people.
Another whimper. This time from both of the children for they must know their hour is nigh. The alchemists eyes soften slightly as he brings a gloved hand up in front of him placing his ring finger to his thumb.
"Let the carnage be your lullaby." He whispers softly. The woman shakes her head slowly once as a defiant smirk crosses her lips.
"Long after we are delivered safely into the embrace of Ishbala you will still be haunted by this. So let it be yours." She said kneeling down in front of her children. She took them in her arms once again burying her face in their hair waiting to be joined with her kinsman.
