A/N: All the characters belong to the most wonderful BBC show Doctor Who and (sadly) they're not mine.

A Doctor/Rose and a bit of Mickey/Rose fanfic, and lots and lots of angst. Yes, I like angst. Angst is what I basically breathe. Please R&R!

Two Hearts

[doctor]

Doctor is an everlasting wanderer, aristocrat dressed in a black coat covered with dust of time. He wants to see the end of the world before it comes, he wants to frighten his own fear, he wants to run from running. He's an egoist with two hearts to give away (one for Rose, one for the rest of the universe).

[mickey]

Mickey has a single, human heart that slows down its rhythm when Rose runs straight to this police box, closes the blue doors behind her and doesn't look back.

[rose]

She doesn't know it yet, but one day she'll die for millions of constellations.

But right now, she jumps through time only to feel what it's like to be falling. The first, second... tenth journey is as easy as this leap but coming home is like walking up the stairs that lead her in the opposite direction.

She's sitting on the edge of the universe in the middle of a shoal that's shining with colors existing only beyond time.

'Doctor,' she whispers. 'I can't breathe.'

He's holding her hand.

'Take a deep breath, Rose. Don't be afraid.'

She's not afraid of anything. She'll never forget the sight of frozen time that soaked into her eyes. She knows what she wants. She wants to sit like this forever feeling the presence of her Doctor. She wants this and nothing more.

[doctor]

Doctor sometimes remembers that he has no conscience. That's when he tries not to love his Rose (no, no, no, not his Rose, he has stolen her, a long time ago). He chooses to be a wanderer and he chooses wrong. Millions of years later he still walks on the edges of parallel worlds only to recall what it used to feel like: cold breeze against his skin, parched lips that taste of salt, voiceless scream inside his head.

[mickey]

For him, the face of the Doctor is a mask. He wants to explain this to Rose, but she's not coming back. At night he watches the skies that light up with silent thunderstorms. They vibrate with colors just like Cardiff shines in the summer. He likes to think that Rose is like a star that one day will fall on earth.

[rose]

Rose gives her heart to a man in a black coat. She will never notice that every gesture he makes only proves how inhuman and unfamiliar and strange the Doctor really is.

[doctor]

Now, the Doctor has three hearts (one for Rose, one for the rest of the universe, and one for himself, and he walks away and he never comes back).
