Ayame clambered to the top of the boulder sitting in the center of her camp. "Wolves of all ages, it is time for a meeting of the Pack of Golden Sun!" she called. Moments later, a dark gray wolf with flames licking his paws and tailtip bounded up beside her. "Hello, Blaez." Ayame greeted him, twining her tail around his, carefully avoiding the tip. Turning to her pack, she began to speak. "I have several announcements. First of all, Setra and Terro's pups have been born in the night." An ice-blue she-wolf with golden ears, paws, and tailtip flicked her tail across a brown male with red paw's back. "The female has been named Macaiha, and the male Dontro. Second of all, the Pack of Rising Moon have reported to me that their prey has been running low, and have asked if we can spare a deer or two. What should we do?" A stunned silence followed, and then Setra, the blue she-wolf, broke the silence. "We have plenty of prey. If we do not give them anything, they will either attack us or die of starvation, both ending in wolves dying. I say we should give it to them." Ayame dipped her head in assent. "My Beta has spoken wisely. We have plenty, and if we don't, wolves will die. Kamirah, you and Matias will come with me later to the border. We will bring a deer and three rabbits. That should be enough." A small white-and-purple wolf nodded. "This meeting of the Pack of Glowing Sun is concluded. You may go." The wolves dispersed, some going back to their dens, some going to the prey-pile. Blaez walked over to Terro. "Terro, will you take Sabia and Kegwa on a border patrol with you? Check the Rising Moon and Cloudy Sky borders." The brown male nodded, and then turned. "Sabia! Kegwa! Border patrol." Two wolves, a pink she-wolf and a black male with blue ears, paws, and tailtip padded up. Turning to the she-wolf, Terro asked, "Where do you want to check first, Sabia? Rising Moon or Cloudy Sky?" She thought for a moment, and then decided. "Cloudy Sky. That way we can hunt on the way back from Rising Moon. We'll need more prey, since we're giving some to them." Terro nodded. "Good choice. Let's go." With that, he turned to the west, and the three wolves padded away. After they left, Blaez turned to Ayame, nuzzled her, and went to get some prey. Ayame padded over to the nursery, where Setra was curled around her sleeping pups. "Hello, Ayame." Setra said. "How are the pups doing?" Ayame asked. Smiling wearily, Setra answered, "Fine. It seems like they're always hungry, though." She turned her gaze to Macaiha, who was pink with a darker heart on her flank, and Dontro, who was tan with red and black patches. "They're beautiful." Ayame murmured, stroking one gently with her tail. "I just wish…No, I'm the Alpha, I could never…" Setra interrupted her thoughts. "Could never what?"She asked softly. "It's not like it matters, but I could never have pups." Ayame shook her head, and began to head for the entrance. "Ayame, come back! Of course you can have pups. Just because you're Alpha doesn't mean you can't have pups. I would just take over your duties." Ayame looked at Setra, then the pups. "Not when you have pups of your own to take care of." And with that, she left. She headed to her den, burrowed her muzzle in her tail, and began to cry. Blaez walked quietly up. "Ayame, what's the matter?" He asked gently. Ayame dried her eyes. "Nothing." She stood up and walked outside. "Nothing." She repeated, as if she was trying to convince herself, and not Blaez. "Kamirah! Matias! Let's go. We need to take the prey over to Rising Moon." As the three wolves ran off carrying the meat, Blaez started to call to his mate, but thought better of it. "I'll talk to her tonight." He muttered under his breath, and padded back to the Alpha's den.
