A burning child's hunt
Chapter one: Why all the lies?
Being a child of a Greek god is never easy. What with the dyslexia (mind being programmed for ancient Greek) and ADHD (battle reflexes apparently) being half human and half god couldn't make life any harder. But knowing that I was probably the oddest of all; that was hard! Most demi-gods with their parent's abilities were super smart, strong or could shoot lightning bolts from their fingers. Me, well, I always stood out, with tanned skin that actually glowed with a miniature sunlight when I got annoyed or overjoyed and brown hair that changed colour when I got embarrassed to a light blonde. Oh, and I also accidently put my step-sister in hospital with a hug because of my powers. I accidently roasted her skin and she had like, thirty percent burns. Oops!
I lived in central Arizona, Phoenix to be precise; the perfect excuse for being so tan. Oh and something else you should know about me. My father is also the god of prophecy so I randomly take fits of uncontrolled prophecy. People in all thirteen schools I went too in the last five years could never understand why I shone and why I suddenly started mumbling things that happened an hour or a few days later. The power of Apollo is hard to control. Now I will start my story from the beginning...
My name is Sean and I am thirteen. My story truly began when I got kicked out of Phoenix High school. It was the seventh school I've been kicked out of for incidents of becoming angry and the teacher (and in this case half the class) becoming blind and charcoaled. The reason they put on expulsion papers was, 'Teachers traumatised and possibly scarred for life.' My mother would never explain why I was different and it annoyed the hell out of me. It was only when I roasted my step sister that I was finally told the truth. My mum sat me down while Kiera was in hospital. 'Sean, there's something I need to tell you,' she said softly, her voice quavering with almost fear. I asked quietly, 'Yea?' she smiled and asked, her blonde hair drooping in front of her face. She pushed it back with a sweep of her hand and. 'Do you remember the stories I used to tell you about the Greek gods? Well, the god's are real...' I gasped 'WHAT?' my excitement overwhelmed me. Then I quietly asked, 'what relevance has this to us?' My mum looked scared and almost afraid of what she was about to say. 'Well...before I met your step dad, I met a god. I cant tell you which because the god has to claim you. But you carry the powers of a god.'
I was sitting in my room, the door barricaded. I was so annoyed that my mum had waited thirteen years to tell me this. HOW COULD SHE LIE TO ME? I WAS TOLD MY DAD WAS DEAD! I was packing my bags and getting ready to hop out the window. I wasn't sure what I was going to do, but I knew I wasn't staying here. My body trembled as I decided I was leaving. I loved my mum and my family. But I couldn't stay here after I knew the truth. Besides, if my mum was right, there had to be others like me and I would find them. Even if it was the last thing I ever did. I was at ground level so jumping out the window wasn't much hassle as I slip off into the twilight as the sun set around me. The beautiful plains of Arizona stretched out before me. It was going to be a long night...
