The Malfoy's learn that Mudbloods are only human too, thanks to the greatest power on earth- Love.

Draco stopped hating Harry Potter sometime after their fight in the bathroom. It just wasn't worth it. All he could think of was his parents.

He stopped wishing he could exchange Harry Potter's Imperioused body for his parents after Harry saved him from a fiery death.

Now, sitting in the Great Hall, on the scene of The Dark Lord's defeat, the Malfoy family let go of an older hatred. Without words, they looked at each other, and Draco realised that somewhere along the way, they'd changed. Draco doubted anyone would ever again hear the word 'Mudblood' spoken by a Malfoy.

"What happened, Mother, Father?"

The question came from nowhere, and without any context, but Lucius Malfoy's mark was gone now, and he was a father first, so he looked at his son and understood him. Narcissa tightened her grip on her son's shoulder and answered him,

"We remembered that we are a family. We remembered that we are human. All of us." her gaze encompassed the room.

Draco was too shell-shocked and scared to smile, but with Lucius and Narcissa sitting beside him, each with a hand on his shoulder, Draco Malfoy realised something that most people know from birth.

He was loved. Unconditionally. He wasn't loved because he was a Death Eater, or a Pureblood, or because he got the best grades. He was loved because he was Draco.

That simple knowledge made him look at Harry Potter in a new way. Harry Potter's mother was a Mudblood. But she died for him. That old tired fact that Voldemort obsessed over hit Draco, almost slapped him, because now he knew.

Draco knew Lucius and Narcissa would have done the same. He had watched them run through a pitched battle to his side, calling his name. He had felt himself be shielded by his father and mother, and he had watched under the protection of his parents wands as Harry Potter defeated the Dark Lord.

Draco sat up taller. His parents were afraid, but they sent him smiles anyway. They sat here, in the midst of all of Harry Potter's greatest supporters, in the midst of the Order and Dumbledore's Army, and looked only at him.

I'm afraid. I don't know what's going to happen to us.

But if this was the only good thing that happened thanks to Harry Potter, I'd still have enough reason to shake his hand.

Maybe one day, I'll give him reason to want to shake mine.
