The sun was rising. Korra groggily opened her eyes. It had been almost a week since she and her friends had saved Republic City from Kuvira and her giant Mechasuit-Spirit-Ray-Monster. It was surreal! She was lying on her futon, in her room, on Airtemple Island like nothing had happened, like today was going to be like any other day.
But it wasn't!
Today, she and Asami would go on their long-awaited vacation into the Spirit-World.
After a quick waterbending shower and airbending blow-dry, Korra got dressed and packed her essentials. She was just about to walk out of her room when she bumped into Pema.
"Ugh! Oh uhm sorry Pema!"
-"No worries, dear! Are you going anywhere?"
"Uhh yeah.. I'm going on vacation. Remember? To the Spirit-World? With Asami?"
-"Oh sure! I'd almost forgotten. You girls have fun! Shame you didn't bring any company, if you know what I mean..." Pema winked.
"Well you know we really just wanted to go by ourselves. Asami is more than enough company for me." Korra replied, trying to tell Pema that she really wasn't into the kind of company she was talking about.
-"Oh yeah sure! I completely understand! Sometimes you just need to spend time with your close friends instead of looking for love." And with that she walked away.
«Close friends»? What's that supposed to mean? «not looking for love»? Pema's nice and all but she really doesn't get it sometimes.
Korra continued walking down the hallways when she reached the kitchen. She didn't have much time to eat, so she just grabbed an apple and went on to look for the kids in the court yard. As expected, Jinora, Ikki and Meelo were playing Airball there.
"KORRAAAAAA!" they all shouted simultaneously.
-"Hey guys!" she replied, and when she saw the look on Ikki's face she quickly added -"And I'm sorry but I can't play with you today. Or tomorrow. Or the day after tomorrow. Or the day after that. See the point is, I'm leaving."
"What?" Meelo exclaimed, trying to cover up a fart that escaped.
-"Yeah... I'll be gone for some time, exploring the spirit world with Asami. But don't worry, I'll be back before you know it!"
The kids hugged her tightly, and a tear rolled down Korra's cheek. The whole thing turned into a group hug, when Mako, Bolin and Bumi joined in on their way to breakfast.
"What's happening here?" Asami asked in confusion when she saw the bundle of bodies almost piled on top of each other.
-"Asami!" Korra said, gasping for air, freeing herself from the friendly mob.
"Ready to go?"
-"Sure thing!" she answered blushing, still a little out of breath.
They were already at the shore, boarding their boat, when the Avatar rapidly swung her head around again and shouted "Jinora! Say good bye to Tenzin for me!"
And with this they left Airtemple Island to go to the new Spirit-Portal right in the heart of Republic City.
