Chapter 1.

(Yanagi Renji pov)

What has drawn me to go closer to this girl? I'm pretty much sure she hasn't had any romantic interest with me, she has been my comrade or better yet my best friend. Here i'm watching her read her favorite book of all time. in all our years in friendship, that book was the first one to catch her attention.

"Senpai," I called. It kinda hurts that we weren't in the same school anymore, she's only older by one year, yet she only looks at me like her little brother.

She looks at me with her dull looking black eyes, is it the first time that i've noticed that she has this sharp eyes that could practically pierce through your soul, Her eyes seems hollow yet full of emotions.

"What is it? Renji," The way she calls my name. The way she rolls her tongue to say my name. it's quite pleasant. Her eyes planting back through every words in the book.

"Nothing, it seems that you're pretty much absorbed in the story, senpai," I said trying to keep my cool.

She smiles a little which made my heart skip a beat. "I thought you're used to it, I love this story... about a girl who finds love with a boy... it starts with friendship, they've had so much adventure together, it's romantic per say,"

I let out a light chuckle which rang through the library, we're alone. Except for the librarian who is always sleeping. "You already said that for a million times every time you read that book,"

She laughs softly, "This book is similar to you, but I don't think you might understand yet, Renji," Her voice seem to go down until she finishes her sentence. "I-I don't..." I looked if she's lived one year before me in this world. I always think that she has more experience than me, in other words... 'matured'

"Is there something wrong?" she asks, I snapped out, looks like i've been blankly staring at the air for few minutes now. "Nothing senpai, anyway, how was your first year in high school?"

She looks back at me with her bored look, "It's boring, I figured being a middle schooler is much better," She said jokingly. "You better enjoy your last year of middle school Renji or you'll regret,"

I nodded at her words, but, I can never enjoy like last year without her around with me, "So... I heard you lost, what I mean is the national tournament" she added. I nodded simply, I already accept the defeat, Seigaku sure does have a decent first year player,

"Hey, you've been spacing a lot lately..." She stated. "You think so?" I said back, she nodded. I can't clearly tell her emotions, is she sad? Is she happy? Is she mad? I can't predict that.

"It's almost at sunset, Renji, let's go home," She closed the book shut while standing up from her seat. I nodded and stands up as well. She woke up the librarian before we bid goodbye.

While walking home it was an eerie of silence, I kept staring at her while she focused on walking forward. "We're almost at your house," She spoke that made me flinch slightly in surprise. "Y-Yeah," When will be the time that I will be the one walking her home...

"Then, see you tomorrow, goodnight" She waved at me and left. I stared at her retreating body for a while before entering the house. "Goodnight," I muttered under my breath.
