Reminiscence

Avatar Aang glanced towards the setting sun as he lingered in front of Zuko's palace balcony. Of all the wonders of Mother Nature, the sunset seemed to be the most beautiful of all. The hazy, crimson shades mingled with the deep, golden orange ones, and the pinkening sky glistened among the colorful splashes of twilight. The glowing sun cast its rays upon the airbender as he lost himself in thought. As usual, his musings involved on how much things have changed in the course of a few days, but today, his thoughts were elsewhere...they were on a certain waterbender.

Katara...the name itself was beautiful to him. He would chant her name a million times a day, and it still wouldn't be enough for him. It was love at first sight. She had been through so much for his sake, whether it was facing countless battles each day or providing him hope during the darkest of times. Even though he was in extreme danger, she never hesitated to aid him. Since the start, she had faith in him and was even willing to leave her family behind to support him. With her angelic smile, she captivated the young airbender's heart. If it wasn't for her, he wouldn't even be standing on this very balcony. His eyes shone with utmost gratitude as the scene at the crystal catacombs in Ba Sing Se hastily unfolded in his mind. Without her support, he wouldn't have been able to make it. Aang closed his eyes, recalling the countless of times he imagined to hold her in his arms. His thoughts roamed from the panda lily incident at Aunt Wu's village to when she first awoke him from his iceberg sleep. Aang laughed at the memory of penguin sledding. His heart stopped when she was captured in the clutches of General Fong when trying to provoke the avatar state. Speaking of which, he could have easily slipped into the avatar state during his frustration at the play in Ember Island, despite the fact that his chakra was blocked. He would give infinite reasons on why she is his one and only forever girl. She was his life, his sole purpose for defeating Ozai...his soulmate...

Aang's thoughts were interrupted as he heard Katara's gentle footsteps behind him. Instantly, he felt a smile playing on his lips, and his heart was skipping several beats. Katara was adorned in an intricate dress, embroidered with silken cherry blossom designs. Her long hair was down in a loose braid(only without the hair loopies). Most of all, her eyes shone like oceanic emeralds as they stared into Aang's ashen ones. They emanated a sense of pride towards the airbender, who smiled lovingly back. No words were needed to describe the silent moment between them. It was a silent daydream of pure, heartfelt confessions. Aang took Katara's hands in his and held them close to his heart. "Thank you, Katara." he whispered, smiling. Katara seemed surprised by the gesture and his words. "For what, Aang?" she asked. Aang gently moved closer. He locked his eyes with Katara's. "For everything." he finished before touching his lips with hers.
