AN: I don't own the characters or the plot, actually, they belong to Tamora Pierce....and the song is Thanks, that was fun by Barenaked Ladies...some of the words come from Pierce's book, The Woman Who Rides Like A Man, I suggest you read it before reading this, or it may be confusing....

Jon paced his rooms. Why was Alanna so damn stubborn? Why couldn't she see he only wanted what was best for her. She had only torn his heart in two. Jon knew Alanna had been reasonable, but it hurt so much...

I'm learning, I'm yearning,

I'm burning all your stuff,

But that's not enough.

I'm thinking that I'm aching:

Mistaking lust for love.

Thanks that was fun.

Don't forget, no regrets ('cept maybe one)

Alanna stormed into her tent, yanking apart all her belongings. She found the damnable letters and stomped out to the desert. Whispering a few well-chosen words, the paper burst into flames, consuming the words that had caused her so much pain. Alanna sank to her knees, tears trickling down her face. Damn him.

Did I scare you when I dared you?

I stared you in the eye and told you good-bye.

You mocked me. It shocked me,

When you walked me to the bus.

Thanks, that was fun.

Don't forget, no regrets ('cept maybe one)

Made a deal, not to feel (God, that's dumb)

Jon couldn't keep the fiery lioness out of his head. Even the courtiers noticed something was wrong as he prowled around the castle. Part of his longed to see Alanna again, but another part wanted to hurt her as she had him.

"Prince Jonathan," Queen Lianne said, "may I make Princess Josiane known to you?" Perfect...

Everybody knows the deal fell through.

I was hoping I could just blame you.

When was it that I became so soft?

Alanna rode into Port Caynn, her heart lifting for the first time since her fight with Jon. Turning into Dog Lane, she and Coram found House Azik, where George was staying.

"And I've been thinkin' you forgot me," George said, swinging Alanna around in a hug. She burst into tears and buried her face in his shirt.

"I had a fight with Jon."

This sentimentality doesn't look good on me.

I thought that you would be begging to be with me.

I'm the one on my knees, blubbering,

Please, let me stay.

Jon knew Josiane and his mother were waiting for him to propose. And he knew he wasn't going to. Josiane had proved useful and was not becoming annoying. Jon had tired of the boring court ladies; he wished for someone with a personality—someone like Alanna.

Deflated and jaded. I hate it when you call

(which isn't at all)

I've spoken, though broken.

Here's a token of my love.

Alanna stood outside a door, listening to George, Coram and Marek.

"—he's not left Josiane's side since." George slipped out the door finding Alanna.

"How much did you hear?" he asked.

"Was I supposed to hear something?" George laughed.

"I'm glad Jon showed you that nobles are a proud, ungrateful lot, thinkin' of no one bur themselves."

"I'm a noble."

"No. You're my own sweet lass, and all the woman I could ever want." He kissed Alanna, pulling her close. "There's plenty more fish in the sea than Prince Jonathan. And this particular fish loves you with all his crooked heart."

"I'm glad, I need to be loved right now. Kiss me again, please."

Thanks, that was fun,
