Derek Hale sat alone in the charred remains of what was once his house. His mind swirled with thoughts of Erica and Boid, his pack members who were now dead. The memory of finding their dead bodies still burned in the back of his mind. He knew that it had happened quite some time ago, but the death of Jennifer made him rethink all the tragedies that he had tried to erase from his thoughts. He wasn't really the mourning type... At least not on the outside. He had always tried to pass off deaths like no big deal, when in reality, it stung like rubbing alcohol on a fresh wound.

"Why does everyone around me always get hurt?" he asked himself.

Meanwhile, 19 year old Courtney Chavez slowly attempted to get out of her warm bed. She was staying at her parents house in Beacon Hills for the week for her stepdad Kyle's birthday. They have been married since Courtney was 10 years old and she had been miserable ever since. The worst part was having to change her last name from West to Chavez. Plus, he was a total douche. Every year for Christmas, he would give me $10 and tell her to quit bothering him. She decided to go on a jog, so she she put on some Nike Tempos and an old highschool volleyball tshirt and put her short blonde hair into a ponytail. She left the bedroom and as she walked by the kitchen, her mom said, "If youre going for a run, dont go into the woods! The news says that there was a wild animal of some sort that is attacking random people." She faintly heard Kyle mutter, "On second thought, maybe you SHOULD go through the woods." She rolled her eyes and headed outside.

"There's no creature in the woods", she said to herself as she headed in the area where her mom told her exactly not to go.
