As Winter's Morning Bleeds Into Summer's Night

Yang wakes up at five in the morning and she slowly peels herself out of bed. She doesn't have to start her morning routine for another two hours but something about today prompts her to get up. She starts making her morning coffee in the dark and opens a window. The air in Vale didn't smell as fresh as it did in Patch but she takes a deep breath anyways. She takes her morning coffee to the apartment window and stares out into the sky, laughing at how cliche she probably looks. Almost like a scene in one of Blake's books.

There are more buildings than sky in her view but she loves it anyways. It's almost winter but the chill hasn't quite set in yet. She wonders if it's the warm coffee in her hands or the woman in her bed that makes this morning a little warmer than she thought it would be.

Yang sits in silence, a feat her team would have thought impossible given her loud presence, but she knows better than to make noise when a demon was still sleeping in her bed. She bites back a laugh when she hears grumbling about a rude lover and a cold bed, pretending not to have noticed as she smiles into her mug. There are thumps and more grumbling before the door slams opens and it takes all of her willpower not to laugh at the sight of Weiss, tousled and seething.

"Coffee's over there, Weissy." It's a wonder how Yang maintains her composure as she watches her girlfriend stomp over to the coffeemaker, growling.

The first thing Weiss noticed that morning was the chill. It wasn't that the room itself was particularly cold but there was a distinct heat missing. The second was the empty space in her bed and for a brief moment, her heart sunk. Logically, she knew that Yang simply got up earlier than usual and was probably enjoying her morning coffee by the window again, but she couldn't help the way the emptiness of the room reminded her of the Schnee mansion. It had been years since she last thought of her old life and time made no difference on how it still made her blood boil. She had left, just as her older sister did, and never turned back.

Weiss cursed, her morning already ruined, and she got out of bed, promptly hitting her toe on the edge of the bed. "Stupid Yang and her stupid morning routine! This is all her fault. She just has to wake up so goddamn early every fucking morning and leave me with this cold-ass bed. I mean, what kind of rude lover gets up and leaves you without your human body-pillow! Unbelievable!"

She rushed out the room, tense and fuming, to find Yang sitting just as how she predicted with a grin hidden poorly by her steaming mug. "Coffee's over there, Weissy."

Author's Note: This was an idea I got while I was having my morning coffee and it happens to be Day 1 (Summer's Morning, Winter's Night) of Freezerburn week so why not? Day 1 is supposed to highlight the differences between Yang (Summer's Night) and Weiss (Winter's Morning) so it seemed like a fun idea to have Morning Person!Yang and Morning Grouch!Weiss. This is also posted on my tumblr account strawberryspaghetti but I thought it would be nice to add more to the collection over here. Also, this is technically done already but I have an idea for part 3 so if anyone's interested, I could write that too. Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed this fic! Thanks for reading!

PS: I'm not very good at coming up with titles so I just twisted the prompt a bit. Hehe, sorry 'bout that. One of these days, I'll get a friend to help me out with titles but for now, this'll have to be it.
