Here is another fic. Happy Birthday Catherine! This one is for you babe. Love you! XOXO
"This can't possibly be this difficult." Sean sigh as he turned the piece of treated wood in his hand.
"It wouldn't be if you read the instructions!" Alex snapped as she ran a hand over her rounded stomach.
"I'm a Navy SEAL, I don't need someone to tell me how to put together a crib for my own child." He scoffed.
"Obviously you do because we've been here for the last hour." She spoke as she stepped around the various screws and tools. "Sean I have been so stressed lately and my feet, head and everything in between hurt so can you please read the instructions?" She asked looking around the room that was in disarray. It was stressing her out.
"Then go lie down." Sean suggested.
"If I leave you're going to do something stupid and I don't want to have to go to the emergency room with you."
"Then find me the instructions." Sean mumbled, not really paying attention to her.
"Where did you even put the booklet?" She asked as she looked around the would-be nursery.
"I don't know, over there." Sean spoke and waved his hand without looking to cover around three quarters of the room.
Alex sigh and rolled her eyes as she went around looking through the room.
They had made good progress on the nursery over the last six months, the walls were painted a gentle green, the ceiling blue and birch tree decals covered the wall along with friendly forest animals. They wanted to wait to find out if they were having a boy it a girl so it had to be as gender neutral as possible.
They had gotten drawers, some clothes, diapers and anything else they thought they needed. Michael and Katherine had offered to give them Samuel's old crib but when Kate turned up pregnant with their second child it felt wrong for Alex to take it from them.
Sean had then insisted on buying and assembling one himself. Michael had offered but the stubborn Navy man wouldn't take help from anyone.
"How is that going?" Alex asked as she saw Sean looking at the exact same piece.
"Fine." He grumbled gently.
Alex held back a laugh and ruffled his hair as she walked across the hall into their bedroom.
Opening her laptop she searched the brand name of the crib and was glad when she found the instructions within the first two links.
She printed off the copy, taking the sheets in her hand only to have her attention drawn back to the pending nursery when she heard Sean curse.
"Sean?" She asked as she left the room.
"Hi." He mumbled looking like a punished child. He sat on the floor, his hand in his lap.
"What did you do!?" Alex called when she saw the blood and quickly grabbed a towel that was lying near by.
"I was holding the underneath of it when I put the nail in, it wasn't a really good idea." He sigh as he let Alex press down on the wound.
"You know Sean, it's okay to admit you don't know how to put together a crib." She smiled as she wrapped his hand.
"I'm the man of the house, I'm supposed to know how to do this stuff." He reminded. "What kind of father will I be if I can't even put together a damn crib."
Alex kissed his forehead. "The best kind." She assured. She took his none injured hand and placed it against her stomach where their baby was kicking. "He or she thinks so too." She grinned.
Sean smiled widely and kissed Alex's belly before kissing her. "Sorry for freaking out." He apologized.
"It's okay." Alex assured and handed him the printed off instructions. "A real man asks for directions." She winked gently. "Now I'm going to go have a bath, but feel free to join me-"
Sean stood up with a grin on his face, only to frown when Alex wagged her finger at him in a scolding manner. "Feel free to join after you're done putting this together and cleaning up. I'll be waiting." She winked with a suggestive smirk before walking away.
