Looking down at the perfect tiny little bundle nestled in his arms, he thought about how he almost lost this. The opportunity to hold his daughter almost lost her mother. He almost gave up the right to be here. With his family.
Her free arm flailing wildly until he brought his hand up to meet hers. Her tiny fist gripped a hold of his index finger, holding on for dear life. He brought her perfect chubby little five fingered hand up to his lips and placed a kiss on them.
Her perfect bright blue eyes blinked and squinted trying to focus. Her perfect little button nose twitching and scrunching becoming accustomed to her new source of air. The steady rise and fall of her little chest, his new reason to wake up every morning, and fight his way home every night.
Her chubby little cheeks, lips and tongue all moving in unison trying in vain to find something to suckle on.
"You hungry, pretty girl?" he asked softly. His 10 hour old daughter almost mewling in response.
The corner of his mouth lifting up in a smirk, "Daddy can't help ya in that department pretty girl. Mommy wants you to breast feed first, so we gotta wake her up."
Carefully he stood from the rocker that was positioned in the corner of the hospital room.
"Montana," he said quietly. He watched her eyes pop open and look around frantically.
"Oh god Anna is she okay?" she asked frantically looking her daughter over.
"Yeah baby, she's fine," he assured her, "but she's hungry."
He stood back as he watched his wife maneuver her top enough to free her breast, and then handed his daughter to her. Their daughter eagerly accepted the nourishment.
"How'd you know she was hungry?"
"She told me," he replied simply.
Lindsay looked up at him, a smile on her face. Her beautiful make up free skin glowing. Her tired brown eyes shining. "I love you, Daniel Messer," she said to him.
He leaned down, "I love you too, Lindsay Messer," he replied before gently kissing her lips.
Standing there, he watched his wife nourish his daughter. This perfect little being that they created together. He realized this was what he was meant for. To be a father, a husband. He was meant to protect them, to love them. Everything he had or done before them where a filler in his life. Just a way for him to pass the time until Lindsay walked into his life.
A/N: came from the prompt quote 'How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but to be someone. Coco Chanel' I have had little fluffy bunnies by my feet all week LOL I guess they came for the new shows, in hopes of more fluffy goodness. shrugs This is supposed to be set after Anna from Screwed Up was born.
