Little Voice From A Little Planet

Nagamine,
I've been reading the mails from you again today.
Looks like you're getting farther and farther away from me, huh?
Everyone's told me that I should be proud. Proud that my girlfriend is somewhere out there in the space, doing dangerous things for the sake of us all on Earth.
And maybe you're even fighting to survive.
Nagamine,
Am I being selfish?
I don't want you to go even farther from Earth. From me.
I miss you. I miss you so badly that I'm doing nothing other than staring at my cell phone, hoping that there's an e-mail from you coming just for me.
I know that you're doing what you've dreamed of out there. But are you thinking of me too? Or maybe you're so busy with your duties that you don't even have time for yourself?
And I'm worried about you, Nagamine.
I know so well how you are. I know you tend to neglect yourself when you're busy or under pressure.
Do you eat well enough for your health? Do you have enough rest?
Wait, they do have doctors and stuffs there, right? You will go to see them if you feel queasy in your stomach, right?
Nagamine, people around me look at me differently now. They often have this look of sympathy toward me. Is it because of the distance between us? But they only pretend to know what we're feeling... don't you agree with me? They can never know what the two of us have been and would go through. Except for the families and loved ones of your fellow crews and pilots, maybe.
Nagamine, I've tried not to say this, but I can't.
You're still sixteen there, huh?
I don't know if you remember or not with everything going around you there... but I'm twenty-one years old today.
My God, twenty-one years old. We often joked around about what we'd do when we're twenty-one, do you remember that?
But you're still sixteen.
Damn... you're STILL sixteen!!
I'm glad that this mail is not written by hand... or you'd probably see that my writing is very shaky.
Why, you ask?
Well… let's just say that my vision is getting blurry too.
Nagamine,
I miss you.
And I pray that your mission would be over soon. And you come back to Earth. To home. To me.
I don't care if you're still sixteen and I'm already twenty-one. When you come back, you come to me, okay?
Take care, and don't forget to eat!
Noboru
P.S.
I mean it, Nagamine! Don't forget to eat and sleep!
Thousand years and far away
Far beyond the silky way
You're the shine that never blinks
The shine that never dies
- Through The Years And Far Away (Hello, Little Star) – Low, Hoshi no Koe theme song
Notes:
If you don't know by now, Hoshi no Koe is a very beautiful and touching indie anime that amazes the hell out of me and most of the people who have watched it. Go and watch it if you haven't done so! Title is inspired by the sub-title of Saishuu Heiki Kanojou, Last Love Song On This Little Planet. Yes, I also love SaiKano, thank you very much. ^___^ But at least Chise and Shuuji don't have the same fate as Mikako and Noboru.
Finished: September 21, 2002.
