Chapter 1

Finding the shikon shards

I walked into the village. I could feel it. There were shards of the Shikon No Tama here. I closed my eyes. Every once in a while, people would pass by me, giving me no more than a glance. Then I sensed it. I opened my eyes suddenly. Walking passed me was an elderly man. I waited until he was a reasonable distance away from me. Then I ran by him and purposely tripped over a log that was lying on the ground in front of me. My arm hit a rock, but was merely cut. A human's arm would have broke... I thought. I groaned in pain. The man kneeled beside me. "Miss, are you alright?" He asked. "I...I think so...I'm not sure..." I said. "Come to my house and my wife will tend to your wounds," He offered. "Oh, but I couldn't possibly cause you that much trouble!" "It's no trouble at all!"

We walked into his house. "Have a seat, my wife will be here in just a minute." He walked out of the room and I sat down on the floor. A few minutes later, an old woman walked into the room. "Hello, I am Madam Koni. What is your name, miss?" She asked, smiling sweetly at me. "I...My name is Lashia, Madam Koni..." I said shyly. "It's nice to meet you, Lashia-Chan. Now let me see your arm..." I held out my arm and she wiped it with a wet cloth and wrapped a bandage around it. "Thank you so much!" I said smiling, "I hope I didn't cause to much trouble...Is there anything I can do to repay you?" "Well...you could come and visit again sometime..." "Oh! Of course I will...And by the way...Have you ever heard of the Shikon No Tama?" "Shikon...No...Tama..." Madam Koni mumbled. I waited patiently for her to think. "Yes I believe I have. My husband found a few shards buried near the river...I was surprised a demon hadn't found them..." She laughed, "Why do you ask?" I reached for the string around my neck, pulling it from under my shirt where they would be hidden, just in case. "I collect them...I hate to ask you...but could I possibly have your shards?" "I'll go discuss this with my husband," She smiled.

Once she had left the room, I put my hand on the bandage that covered my wound, which was almost fully healed. I tried to convince myself that it was an advantage that I was a hanyo...I could have broken my arm before...But even though that was true, I knew that if I wasn't a half demon, I wouldn't need the jewel shards in the first place.

Yes, I'm a hanyo. I'm part cat demon, part human. In case you haven't noticed, my name is Lashia. I'm collecting the shards in hopes of being a human again. I was once a human but one day a terrible demon cursed me in his attempt to kill me. The demon said something about being weak and suffering was better than killing...and that he would come back to kill me like all the others when he used the Shikon No Tama to regain his powers and become a full demon. I was to stunned to say anything, but I thought that if he could use the jewel to become a full demon, I could use it to become a human. So I started my search for the shards.

"Lashia-Chan?" I looked up at Madam Koni, and blinked a few times. "Huh...?" "My husband says that you may keep the shards, because we have no use for them...but you must promise you will come back to see me!" I smiled at her. "Of course!" She handed me the shards and I put them with the others on my necklace. "I should be on my way...I have place I need to go...But thank you for everything!" "You are welcome! Farewell, Lashia-Chan!" I walked away, and once I was out of there sight and removed my bandage revealing my healed arm.

A/N Well...This is my first Inuyasha fan fic so...I hope it's okay so far! Buh-Bye!
