-1"Oh man, Bones, this is not good." Booth ducked as yet another round of bullets tried piercing the armored boat.
"You mean besides being lost in the Congo, thanks to you?" Brennan hissed angrily.
"I was helping you!" Booth shouted.
"What part of MY VACATION don't you understand?"
"The part where vacation includes identifying genocide victims and disappearing!" Booth snapped. Once he had heard Brennan was missing in Africa he pulled every resource he had to find her. He even dragged his old army buddy and sniper, Mario Sanchez along because Sanchez knew the terrain (though the only reason Sanchez came was because Booth saved his ass so many times in the past). Only now, Booth's main concern was getting out alive with his two friends.
"Will you two shut up?! We have a serious problem!" Sanchez yelled.
"Sorry." Booth and Brennan called back.
"Seeley, we have to pull a Panama," Sanchez declared while trying to steer the boat up the river.
"What's a Panama?" Brennan asked.
"It's a Navy thing we borrowed," Booth answered
"I didn't know you were in Panama."
"We weren't in Panama, we were in Nicaragua," Sanchez clarified for Brennan.
"So why do you call it a Panama?"
"Because we thought we were in Panama!" Booth shouted. Before Brennan could understand, Booth dug out pails of gasoline from storage. Brennan crouched, watching as Sanchez handed Booth a cigar. The boat rocked sharply as Sanchez reversed the boat , heading directly into the path of their pursuer.
"What the hell are you doing?" Brennan demanded.
She saw Sanchez smirk slightly as he asked, "Can you swim?"
"When the occasion calls for it, yes!" she snapped.
"Here's the occasion," Booth said. He quickly scooped her up while the gunfire ceased. Kicking and punching, Brennan was dumped unceremoniously into the water. She hit the water hard, but not enough to hurt her. She surfaced just in time to see the boat she was tossed off explode. Her mouth dropped as the boat was incinerated while her pursuers where either driven onto the bank or peppered with shrapnel.
"BOOTH! WH--umph!" She felt something pull her leg and was immediately dunked.
Kicking her way upward, she broke the surface, coughing. And right then Booth and Sanchez surfaced with her, both hissing, "SHH! We don't know if there's more coming!"
So many things flashed through her mind. She wanted to kick Booth's ass for dumping her into the river. She wanted to beat Sanchez for dunking her. And she wanted to hug Booth, because she thought he had died.
None of that happened. Instead she asked blankly, "So that was a Panama?"
"That, Bones, was a Panama."
