Don't know where this one came from but it popped into my head. I miss Leo.
Leo McGarry stood in front of his mirror, adjusting his tie for the third time. He perused his image once again and grimaced. What was he thinking, an old fart like him getting involved with a much younger woman and a campaign staffer at that? Although Annabeth was no ordinary staffer; she was…well, Annabeth. Leo smiled as he thought of the petite blonde that was an unstoppable bundle of energy and optimism. He felt a little foolish as a wave of tenderness washed over him; after all, he was older, more sedate, and more responsible … except when it came to her. With Annabeth, he couldn't think reasonably. Still smiling, he made one more adjustment and then grabbing his coat, he headed out, to meet her for dinner.
She was waiting for him. He'd researched the place carefully, finding a quiet, out of the way place in their current city…Memphis? No, Nashville, he remembered. Hopefully they wouldn't be recognized. But as he surveyed his Secret Service detail, he realized the mistake of that line of thought. Sooner or later someone would put it together. Consequently, they would have to be very careful. The campaign couldn't afford a scandal now. They were just getting some serious traction.
But he put all of that out of his mind as he walked toward her. Sliding into the chair across from her, he smiled. She looked up at him and returned his smile. Then her eyes drank him in.
"You look hot," she said softly and appreciatively.
Yeah right, me hot, he thought to himself. "It's the suit," he smirked. "It's wool."
She looked across at him and rolled her eyes. "Then remind me to get you into wool suits more often," she said coyly. "And then, I can help you get out of them."
Reviews are most welcome. Please let me know what you think of this little short piece.
