Absence makes the heart grow fonder - chapter 1
Standing out on the rough porch I started thinking about things, about how my life had changed. It used to be calm Sundays spent on the sofa with the week's leftovers, but now it was running and hiding and helping and everything I could ever imagine. A gentle hand touched my shoulder. I looked around and saw my mother looking at me with a worried look on her face. I smiled and pulled on my shoes. I heard the beautiful sound of the universe pouring into my backyard. A wonderful dash of blue stood stark against the green grass.
"You're not running off again are you Beth?" my mother looked at me but I could barely meet her eyes. I kissed her goodbye and walked slowly towards the doors to everywhere and anywhere. I turned to where my mother was standing but… she wasn't there and standing in her place was nothing but dust. I didn't hear her leave. I cast a glance though the glass porch doors out into the living room window and waved to the statue in my front garden instead.
