Hypangogia

Chapter. I

When she was younger they had been called daydreams. Now, they were called day-mares.

Her mind would wander and out of the corner of her eye the landscape would change.

If there were trees they would turn black and hang down, clutching the air with spiteful fingers. If there was metal it would rust, and the rust would start to peel. Showing the under layer that looked like one large, gaping, angry red wound. Sounds would start to reverberate from the walls but she would never run outside.

Outside was the worst.

It didn't matter what kind of day it was, shining or raining, outside was always BLACK. So black that it seemed to move, pressing its invisible nose against the glass. Peering in.

So she stayed inside, even when she didn't have a day dream and as she turned paler and paler. Her parents were worried, yes, but she was home schooled and they weren't around much. So they never questioned when she put up all her little princess dresses and dolls into the far back of her closet, where she could never see them.

She never liked playing pretend. That was when she could feel the day-mare begin to creep up on her, ready to jab its little hooked fingers into her brain.

Her name was Lucrezia. Her parents thought it sounded regal. She did too, only for different reasons. Lucrezia Borgia, one of the most feared poisoners of the Renaissance. Lucrezia paused and tried to imagine what it was like. Going to court where the threat of a hollow ring filled with poison was omnipresent.

She was reaching up for whatever fell onto her head even before she realized it. It was thin and angular, she pulled it out slowly so it wouldn't disintegrate further.

A paint chip.

Lucrezia looked up at the ceiling and saw the water marks and the cracks riddling the originally pristine ceiling. As sounds osmosed through the walls she closed her eyes and tried to breathe. She could hear the DARK coming, scratching against the window with black fingers.

And then, as fast as it occurred , she was back again. She clutched the far edges of her desk and remembered when the day-mares started. A pressure started to build in her chest and temples. When she was young.

Her brother, older and now in college, had a game console. A Play Station. Lucrezia would sit and watch him play, clutching her Rabbi for protection.

There was a game…

(She couldn't remember its name.)

But there was a large… thing!

( Like… a giant meat grinder! And it was in a pool of blood!) And she was so scared, but he wouldn't stop! He had to beat the boss!

(A giant monster in the corner, handing from its elbows and moaning. Moaning.)

He wouldn't stop! He wouldn't stop!

The DARK came back and the desk cracked and split, the walls expanded and contracted like a giant lung, she couldn't breathe-

A hand on the shoulder.

The man in the blue coat.

Fin.

Hypangogia, as described on Wikipedia is the state where someone looks awake, but is not. In fact, they suffer from different sensations, like the feeling of falling, the awareness of a "presence" and pressure on the chest or back. Most suffer from extreme night terrors as well.

I do not own Silent Hill 4, Lucrezia though, is MINE.
