I opened the door almost before Alice could knock. Sometimes I wondered why we even had verbal conversations, her mind was screaming at me.
"No, Alice, you are not going to invite all of Forks to the wedding. You know Bella doesn't like big affairs. Don't make us elope." I warned her. Alice just shrugged and stood there watching Bella breathe. She thought she was the most beautiful thing right now.
"I know. She is lovely." Bella curled herself against my chest, the way she had slept since the first night I had snuck into her bedroom. I knew Alice was listening to her heartbeat as much as I was. Everyone in the family would just listen, sometimes. It was like she was our link to our lost humanity. I knew Alice was wondering what it felt like to be human.
"I just want her to get the most out of her human life, Edward. I want her to have the experiences that you and everyone else had, that I'll never have." Alice smiled a bit. "Rosalie thinks she's crazy."
I rolled my eyes. "Rosalie thinks I'm crazy for letting her do this. As if I could stop her." I took a moment to bury my nose in her hair, to smell her sweet scent. "Alice… are you sure she will survive? That I'm not going to … kill her?" Even as the days to our wedding counted down, I felt this tiny fear dangle around us. Bella chose that time to start talking in her sleep.
"No more chocolate lions mama…Edward doesn't like chocolate… lions."
That was different then what she usually said, other then my name. For a moment both Alice and I stared at her, Alice mentally howling with laugher. Sometimes even I wondered about Bella's sanity. One of the concussions may have knocked something loose.
"I'm gonna have to ask about that in the morning. I'm gonna go drive that Porsche you bought me to Mexico." Alice backed out of the doorway. I chuckled, I was going to miss these quiet time when Bella was asleep.
Chocolate lions and all.
