a/n: I don't know if it was clear in Immortal, but I'm playing with the timeline a little. Basically, I'm having the peak in the sun spot cycle happen much later than in cannon. So Misaki and Hei had time for their little evening out before he died...
"The colors shift and change.
The pattern alters.
And you see the world in a different way, with a turn of the kaleidoscope."
Misaki was a strong person, everyone knew that. But if that was the truth, then she wondered how she had come to find herself slumped over Hei's chest, her tears falling onto his black coat and rolling down its water-proof surface.
"Oh, oh, god..."
How did things end up like this? Couldn't anything have been done to prevent Li from walking into that trap?
Now that she'd finally seen the face behind the mask, she was beginning to wish that she never had.
It had been two days since BK-201's star had fallen. It had been two days since Misaki had seen behind the mask. And the world seemed bleak.
She was at the moment sitting hunched on the couch in her living room, a mug of steaming tea cupped in her hands. Tears rolled freely down her cheeks; she had given up on stopping them.
It had been unbelievably hard over the past two days, just going into work and interacting with the people whom she had known for years. So far, though, she had managed to keep her inner turmoil hidden. She had accepted it, the fact that Li-kun was BK-201. That even made sense to her. But what she just couldn't wrap her head around was the fact that he was gone. Dead. He had been such a huge part of her life, both as Li Shengshun and as the Black Reaper, and now...now...
"You really cared for him, didn't you?" The question was spoken in what she had thought to be an empty apartment, and she leapt to her feet and whirled around, sloshing her tea all over the floor in the process.
Before her stood a girl of around fourteen, with long blonde hair past her waist and large ocher-colored eyes. She was looking at Misaki with a sad little smile playing across her lips.
"I'll bet that you would give anything to change what happened. So... Would you like to help me? To alter the past, I mean?" She looked up at the police chief with wide eyes, and continued softly, "Would you help me bring Hei back? Make it so that he never died at all?"
Misaki stared at her, her shock plainly written on her face, before she asked shakily, "What do you mean, bring him back? There's no way to change the past..." There was a pause, and then:
"There is," the girl said slowly, "If you're a contractor."
"A con-" But somehow, Misaki couldn't muster up even a small bit of shock at the statement. Instead she sighed, and shook her head.
"And why would I believe you, even if you are? You could be lying about the whole thing, and you must have some ulterior motive."
"You should believe me...because I care about him just like you. You don't know everything about contractors, Kirihara Misaki, and you don't know how we think. I don't think one of us would ever willingly tell any one of you. But...I came to you for a reason. I need to save Hei. Not only because of how I feel, but because every one of our lives depends on his survival... And I can't do it without you. I lost his trust a long time ago, and I wouldn't be able to stop him. Believe me, I've tried that rout. So please, will you come with me?" And she held out her hand. Misaki took it.
a/n: Just a tidbit so far! There will be more soon (Hopefully). Don't forget to review!
