Silence. Complete and utter silence. It was becoming obvious that his life wouldn't continue on after this day. Every door was nailed, every window boarded up. The only thing keeping the house lit was a small candle on a shelf. It finally dwindled away, and the flame vanished. Outside was more terror than he could possibly comprehend. They were coming for him. No one else. Just him. He remembers just before he retreated to his house that the sky turned black, and suddenly a wave of fear shot over him. Demonic howls echoed throughout the cities.
At about 3:00, everything in the city went into chaos. Death spread rapidly across town, unallowing for any to live. They hunted, killed, devoured, demolished, decimated, and destroyed all that could be. He watched the people run, only to be mauled down and gnashed on. Blood shot from their necks and limbs were torn from their once- living bodies. The ones who didn't die immediately were either bled out or had disease that set up in moments, killing in minutes. If any other life besides him remained, they would not last until nightfall. At this point, it was hard to tell if it had already fallen.
There was no one left. No one. He thought it quite apparent his life would end this day. I should have thought of something better than boards and nails, he thought. I could have used a light barrier, shielding off all traces of my life signs to them. I would practically be invisible to their senses. But I need every ounce of that energy I have left. Even if I do survive the torments of this day, I couldn't go on. My Parents, my Brother, Rippal, I don't think I could handle it. But I have to survive.
I have to.
He could hear their scratching on his door. They gave eerie, quiet growls around his house. He could hear everything, even the dull thumps they make on his roof. "They are toying with me. Testing me. They could come in any time they wanted." The scratching grew louder, as so did the growls. Suddenly the scratching turns into bangs. They beat on the door, tearing it apart slowly. It would not be long before they overrun him. The window's outer glass shattered, but the boards on the inside remained intact. The door busted open, but nothing came through. He stood still, as everything turned into silence. Silent.
They rushed in, swarming like ants on a scorpion. They were filling the spaces of his living room very quickly, and could not be stopped. He quickly ran to his upstairs room, watching them follow up the steps like a creeping disease. He shut the door, and placed a light barrier on it. It couldn't hold forever, but it would have to do for the moment. The door was cracked, and would give way if the light barrier wasn't right next to it. Every time they threw a blow, the light barrier pulsed, grew lighter and quickly turned back to it's normal color.
The light shield was growing dimmer by the moments, and soon, would be gone. A final blow and it vanished from sight. The door shattered, and they were waiting on the other side. They slowly inched their way towards him, knowing that he could not survive even if he wanted to. He focused all of his remaining light and fire energy into a ball, and it grew at the same rate they came at him. It was at it's full power, and they were just inches away. He tossed the bomb down as the darkness crept their final inch. "Oh boy", he said. "This is gonna be one hell of a party."
