Chapter 1: Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty
Sonic the Hedgehog was strolling down the street whistling. Today was going to be a good day. Eggman's plan for world domination went down the drain. It was bright and sunny today, a good day for a daily run.
However, he wasn't really going to run for entertainment. He was going to run to search for someone. Someone that everybody assumed was dead. His name was Shadow. Shadow the Hedgehog.
At first they started out as enemies but then teamed up to save the world. With their combined efforts they stopped the space colony ARK from crashing into the Earth. However this victory was short lived. You see, Shadow ran out of chaos energy which was forcing him out of his super form. He then plummeted into the Earth's atmosphere.
Everyone assumed Shadow burnt up in the Earth's atmosphere. Except for Sonic. Deep down in his heart, he believed that Shadow survived and made it his quest to find him.
Many of his friends told him he was wasting away his time. This didn't deter him from his quest. So far he had spent an entire month searching for Shadow, but wasn't successful in finding the black hedgehog.
Just as he was about to run he saw a poster on a nearby tree.
Have you seen my cat?
He is orange and has no stripes.
Phone number: 786-445-0089
Address: 6786 Fantasy St.
Name of Cat: Mittens
Cat Owner: Monica Granger
Reward for finding cat: 100.00
PS He is also afraid of heights
Sonic thought about this. He was already on a quest to find Shadow, but on the other hand searching for this cat could be fun. Besides he had spent about 30 days searching for Shadow and decided a break would be necessary.
"I'll be sure to relay this information to Tails." Sonic decided. "I haven't seen him in awhile and I'm sure he'll enjoy searching for the cat with me."
With that he ran towards Tails' house.
Tails' House was about 100 miles away located in the jungles of the Mystic Ruins. However due to Sonic's speed, the trip only took five minutes.
He found Tails in the garage working on his biplane.
"I see you've been working on the Tornado lately." Sonic said.
"Oh, hi Sonic." Tails turned to face him. "Yeah, I've been upgrading the Tornado recently. Not only can it turn into a car, but it can also turn into a boat."
"What about the walker mode?" Sonic asked.
"Um, you see the walker mode took up too much space on the Tornado's computer." Tails explained. "I had to replace it in order to make way for the new transformations. In order to have the Tornado access the walker mode, I'd have to reinstall the other computer."
"I see." Sonic nodded. "Machines aside, I didn't come here to test out your new inventions."
"Oh no, don't tell me your still on that crazy search for Shadow." Tails groaned. "He's dead. Dead I tell you. I know your upset about his death. We all were. But you have to accept the truth. Shadow disintegrated in the Earth's atmosphere. I know the truth sounds painful, but if you don't accept it you could end up loosing your own sanity."
"Whoa. Calm down little bro." Sonic said. "I didn't come here to ask you help me search for Shadow. I just have something I think you may be interested in." He then handed Tails the cat poster.
Tails began to examine it.
"The reward is one hundred bucks, I'll split it with you once we find it." Sonic continued. "Come on, it'll be just like old times. The start of another adventure."
"Now that's the Sonic I know of." Tails smiled. "Count me in. I'll go get my gear right away."
"Good." Sonic gave him a thumbs up. "I knew I could count on you."
Tails' gear was mostly made of catnip and fish to help lure the cats.
"Once we find the cat, we'll use the bait to lure it towards us." Tails explained. "That way we wont have to worry about chasing it."
"Smart move Tails." Sonic said. "Lets get going."
The duo searched a lot of places in the city. From roof tops of apartment buildings to parking lots.
Finally they stopped at a nearby alley to rest.
"Man." Sonic groaned "This is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be."
"Well at least it's an orange cat." Tails said. "Ninety percent of the cats here are either black or grey."
Just as Sonic was about to reply they saw an orange cat in front of them.
"Alright Tails." Sonic whispered. "You know what to do."
Tails nodded and pulled a fish from his backpack.
"Here kitty, kitty, kitty." Tails said softly. "Here kitty."
"Meow." The cat slowly walked towards Tails.
"It's working Tails." Sonic grinned. "I'll have to admit you are a genius."
Before Tails could reply, the cat suddenly yanked the fish out of Tails' hand with its mouth and quickly ran away.
"Crud." Tails groaned. "He's getting away."
"Not if I can help it." Sonic immediately took off after the cat.
The chase was on. Sonic was easily gaining on it due to his superior speed.
However, the cat ducked into a nearby manhole that led to the sewers. Sonic instantly rolled into a spin dash and rolled into the man hole.
The sewer tunnels were dimly lit. Luckily Sonic had a flash light. He wasted no time in turning it on. He saw the cat in front of him. He instantly ran towards it, only to slip on a nearby banana peel. Sonic skidded out of control and fell on the floor.
The cat purred in amusement.
"Yeah, yeah very funny." Sonic growled. "We'll see who's laughing once I get my hands on you."
The cat ran, Sonic followed. An underground river was ahead. The cat swam across it while Sonic used his supersonic speed to jump over it.
The cat made it to the other side of the river, only to get picked up by Sonic.
"Gotcha." Sonic snarled.
"Meow." Purred the cat.
"Meow. Yourself." Sonic said. "I'm taking you home."
Sonic emerged out of the sewers from a nearby manhole. Both the cat and the hedgehog were dirty from the underground trek in the sewers.
Tails ran to greet him. "Sonic, I see you successfully captured the cat."
"Yeah." Sonic replied. "Lets just get him home, he caused me enough trouble as it is."
"Um, Sonic that isn't the correct cat."
"WHAT!" Sonic exclaimed. "What do you mean, it's orange isn't it."
"True." Tails nodded. "But it has three black stripes on its back and according to the poster the cat we are looking for has no stripes. I'm afraid we've been barking up the wrong tree."
At that moment, every bit of triumph was sucked out from Sonic. "DARN IT!" Sonic shouted in frustration.
"Meow." Purred the cat.
"Oh shut up!" Sonic snapped.
