Ros wrapped her blazer around her. She could tolerate the cold, in fact she loved it, but if it started to rain there would be hell to pay. She smiled when she saw him approach. She hopped of the wall and gently kissed him on the cheek. He pulled her closer by her scarf and reciprocated the gesture.
"I've missed that…So how are things across the river?"
"Don't smirk Oliver…It wasn't my fault I had to change remember?"
"Ah yes, Thames Academy or a Corrective Centre for Young Ladies. And it was your fault"
"It was a small misunderstanding…"
"Breaking someone's jaw in 6 places with a hockey stick is not a small misunderstanding"
"You got me there" She laughed. "Anyway there's something I have to tell you"
"What" He pulled her in to kiss her but she wriggled out of his grasp.
"It's important. It's about us…"
"What about us?"
"I don't think we will work…Different schools…"
"Someone else?"
"No! It's just that I need a change, Ollie. And that includes you"
She walked away feeling guilty, she had broken up with a head boy, worse still, she had lied in order to do so. Ros rounded the corner and bumped into the boy. Her bag went flying into the middle of the road. Crap. She looked like a fool in front of him.
"Oh its you again! Colin's classmate right?"
"Y-yes, Rosalind." Christ, I'm stuttering.
"I'm Malcolm. VUS."
"I used to go there"
"I know. You broke a boy's jaw in 6 places"
"With a hockey stick" she added laughing.
"How could I forget! Look if you're not busy I'm going to a book reading. "
"I'd love to…" she blushed.
"Great. Well I'll see you in an hour. Just meet up with Colin."
"See you later"
"See you later"
There was an awkward silence. It was Ros who decided to break it. She leant in and kissed him softly on the cheek. She had known who he was since the start of summer. She saw him nearly everyday at Colin's and always felt sad when she was with Oliver. With him it was always so…serious. She wanted romance and literature, she wanted Malcolm. She sighed, for the first time ever she felt warm, happy and like the teenager she was.
