Giving a unicorn the shovel talk wouldn't be easy, but Seth was determined to give it his best shot.
If Bracken was surprised to see Seth waiting for him at the entrance to Fablehaven, he didn't show it.
His eyes did go a bit wide when he noticed Vasilis, though.
"I thought you'd given that to the Singing Sisters."
"I cut them another deal. We set up a timeshare. It's cool."
"A timeshare," Bracken repeated.
"They let me borrow it when there's 'great need.'" He put air quotes around the last part. "Their words, not mine."
Bracken turned grim. "If they've agreed there's need now, the situation with the dragons must be worse than I thought."
"The dragons are under control," Seth assured him. "That's not what this is for."
"Then what - "
Seth pushed himself off the gate and draped an arm around Bracken's shoulders. "A little shade told me you were planning on proposing to my sister."
It was, Seth realized in a moment of rare reflection, a good thing the Singing Sister's equated an event's importance with its entertainment value.
