~Summary~ Draco's parents get a divorce and he struggles to cope with it

Chapter the First – It's Hard to Wake Up

When Draco awoke in the morning his room was completely dark. He found it very difficult to open his eyes without the usual burst of light that came every morning when his mother opened his curtains. Of course, she wasn't there to do this today … or any other day. He fought back tears at the thought of what happened last night.

Once he had composed himself he moved straight to the bathroom and examined himself in the mirror. He still looked like him. Same hair, same eyes and the same stern look on his face, just like his father. The only blemish on his smooth skin was a tiny scar on his right cheekbone. He refused to break down, refused to show any weakness, he was not going to let this change him.

Draco didn't bother showering, instead he just got dressed into the robes he left lying on the bathroom floor from yesterday. He didn't feel like grooming today. He didn't feel like doing anything today. Instead of going down to breakfast like usual, he made his way to the muggle CD player he was given for his birthday by one of his very distant relatives. He magiced up a CD which would describe his mood and put it on as loud as the speakers would allow. The bass was loud and vibrated through the floor and words of anguish filled the air, making his stern look turn downcast.

A house elf entered the room and turned the music down to a dull-roar, "Mister Draco, sir, your father requests your presence at the breakfast table"

Draco, slightly put off by his music being turned down, knew better than to refuse his father. Rubbing the scar under his eye, he got up and exited his room. To make it to the dining room he had to walk down three halls, pass door after door of empty, useless rooms, and down some grand mahogany stairs with a red carpet. The dining room was through the kitchen, and as he walked through he noticed all the house elves busily preparing food … food that would be wasted, two people can't eat that much.

His father was already seated at the table, eating porridge. Draco took his usual seat and sat with his arms crossed on the table, silent.

"Now, Draco, as glad as I am that you've shown your loyalty to me, I wont tolerate you playing that thing so loud." Lucias said, looking up at his son for the first time in 14 hours.

"What? Do you think it'll disturb the neighbors? Because, trust me, they're already disturbed … and, just for the record, I stayed with the house … I'm showing my loyalty to the house" Draco replied without a trace of sarcasm or disrespect in his voice. Lucias looked at his son and shook his head in disapproval.

"Just go to your room and keep the noise level down" Lucias warned sternly

Draco returned to his room and thought about his mother. She had put up with too much to give up now …

'It's hard to wake up, when the shades have been pulled shut, this house is haunted, it's so pathetic, it makes no sense at all!'

The words echoed through his head.

'Can't wait for school to go back.'

A/N: I really can't picture Lucias being mean while he's eating porridge …
