Rain woke up in the middle of the night "Mama! Mama!" Immediately Elphaba rushed over to her daughter's room to see what was the matter. When she walked in she saw her 4 year old daughter trembling under the sheets she slowly walked over to Rain, lifted her onto her lap, and began to rock her back and forth while stroking her hair.
"What's wrong sweetie?" she whispered.
"I had a bad dream." Rain mumbled.
"Do you want to tell me what it was?" Elphaba asked sympathetically.
Rain nodded.
"What was it?"
"I was walking through a dark and scary forest and a big scary wolf was chasing after me and I ran as fast as I could until it caught me." Rain admitted
"Are you okay now?" Elphaba asked her despite knowing that it was just a dream.
Rain nodded clinging on to her mother, Elphaba planted a soft, gentle kiss on her daughter's forehead "It's okay, it was just a dream, you're safe now."
Rain buried her face in her mother's chest and Elphaba kissed her hair gently and continued to rock her back and forth for a couple of minutes until Rain spoke "Mama?"
Elphaba looked at her daughter "Yes sweetie?" Rain looked up at her with medium green eyes that she inherited from her father "Sing?" Elphaba nodded "Of course sweetheart." she tucked Rain back in and began to sing.
Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true
Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow. Why then, oh, why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow why, oh, why can't I?
Rain fell into a peaceful sleep and Elphaba tucked her in some more and kissed her forehead "Good night sweetie, sweet dreams." she whispered and walked out of the room quietly shutting the door behind her carefully.
