Done, done, and done. I admit, parts of this were easy to write, and parts of it were hard. I'd been thinking of some way to wrap this little series up for a while. And I found a way. So, enjoy, I guess. I've got to go back and revise A Mix of Both and Flawless, and while I was thinking about that, this struck. So, enjoy this little wrap-up to their story.
Jordan is gone. Her little baby, all grown up and headed for adventure.
Dawn shakes her head as she walks along the beach, thinking of her own journey, and her own life. She sits on a bench, watching the waves crash against the shore. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she sees a flash of purple hair.
She jumps off the bench as he sees her. She freezes in place as he walks over to her.
"The child?"
Dawn stares at him, reluctant to answer his question. She can tell by his tone that he's not asking how Jordan is doing, how her life was after giving birth, or how the birthday went. He's asking what has become of his child.
"Gone."
She watches Paul smile that cold, cruel smile she fell in lust with, when she was young enough to confuse love and lust. His eyes glint with triumph, as if she's finally gotten rid of the baby like he wanted to, all those years ago.
He takes a step toward her, and she doesn't move away. It's almost as if they're back to playing their first game, waiting for the other person to give control away.
Then he takes her hand, and without warning she's been thrown into their dance. Just like before, there is no affection between them. There is pain and there is pleasure; grunts and primitive noises she's all too familiar with.
When it's over, she's the one to leave the motel room. A first, she thinks. But as she looks back, he's smirking, like he's finally won. She shakes her head.
Deep down, she knew this would happen. They're creatures of habit, both of them. And, because they're creatures of habit, Dawn knows it will happen again.
She stumbles into her little apartment and falls onto the bed, bruised for the first time in a long time.
And in her head she relives the pain.
Relives the pleasure.
Relives the mix of both.
