Ran sat next to Aya in the hospital room, staring at her motionless body. He had taken her name, but Aya was his sister. He had failed to save her, and lost the right to his own name until she was avenged. Since Takatori had run her over, he only had one purpose in life: revenge. He couldn't wake her up, he could barely pay for her medical bills.
He stared at her helpless body upon the bed, and felt the rage build within him once again. It was painful to see her like this. Pain was good. It fueled Ran's desire and focus. There were times when he almost felt he could forget his purpose. Seeing Aya lying on her bed always reinforced his sense of focus. There were times when he experienced weakness. There were times he even thought it might be nice to have some fun. Aya was having no fun. He deserved no better.
Ran stood against the wall as the others lounged in front of the TV. The only emotion he could truly claim to feel was irritation. The kidnapping of girls was terrible, but it did not address his purpose in being there. Takatori was not involved. Takatori was not the target. There was just an irritating punk who would do nothing to advance his revenge.
"Who's in?" All their hands went up, of course. He knew something like this would get that response to Manx's question. With a mission like this, it was a wonder she bothered to ask. Ran tuned out the discussions the others engaged in. He filtered in the fact that there would actually be four targets, one for each member. Ran left it up to Omi to figure out the details; he was good at that stuff.
Ran crept forward, the earpiece registering the fact that Ken had just dealt with his target. He had his right hand lightly on the handle of his katana as he slid towards his target. As Ran caught sight of the target and two acquaintances, he positioned himself. As he struck, the sound of gurgling reached his ear from Youji's strike.
The process of dispatching the three men took 2.35 seconds, and gave enough time for one of them to place his hand on his gun. The sound of Youji's attack had come over the earpiece just as Ran drew his blade to strike. The result was a slight flinch that caused the first strike to hit bone instead of going between vertebrae. Ran cursed himself as he wiped his blade clean. Something so simple could throw him off; it was just not acceptable. He was still too slow.
