Arius, the Enlightened

Upon relinking the fire, Gwyn and his knights where burnt like coals in a fire; some of his knights where even burnt to ash. The silver knights whom survived had armor which was burnt almost completely black, setting them apart as Black Knights. A great mage named Arius had followed Lord Gwyn in his quest to relink the fire. Lucky as to not be burnt to ash, his skin was tarnished, forever stained a dark grey.

He had followed Seath the Scale-less, the grandfather of all magic, to learn the secrets of sorcery. At the Duke's Archives he stayed, studying for years on end. Sometimes, he went months without muttering a single word. The archives brought other followers of the way of magic soon, many who would make note of his dark grey skin. Soon he downed large brown robes, and a silver mask, to cover his tainted hide.

It seemed to him that years would pass in a single second. He would easily lose track of time, and, many times, almost his sanity. But it was his iron will that kept him going. The books of knowledge that Seath uncovered piled up; Shelf after shelf, room after room. They were endless. Arius began to notice a change in Duke Seath, a loss of self-control, as if he had plummeted over the edge of madness. Arius hid himself away in the archives endless rooms, as he feared becoming Seath's next test subject.

The books now seemed to have no end, and Arius made it his goal to read every last one of them, to uncover the power that Seath had unlocked. Arius learned the secrets to crystal magic, and even how to cast light, and morph his body.

One day Arius noticed a change in him. Not a mental change, but a physical one; A change that horrified him. Small crystals began to protrude from his skin. He knew what was happening, no matter how much he would deny it. In fear of an awful fat, he fled the Duke's Archives, to the City of the Gods, Anor Londo. It was there he would seek help, as the Dark Sun Gwyndolin had watched over the city, and preserved sunlight there. Arius gave prayer to the Dark Sun, but Gwydolin ignored Arius's pleads for help.

The crystals grew larger in Arius's skin, and he started to turn blue. He knew it was the end for him, and he would have to accept his fate. He sought the highest balcony of the highest tower to be his final resting place; And there he waited. He knew his knowledge had corrupted his body, and he would not make record of his discoveries. Perhaps some things are best left forgotten.

Slowly but surely he petrified, turning to crystal, forever bathed in the light of a false sun.
