He felt like he should have done something, but what could he do?

Watching the other get beat up, hurt and broken like that made him fall apart. But even if he would have stepped in, he could not have stopped them. They were huge, probably 3 times in size as him, and 5 times in size as the other. They were unstoppable, yet futile in everything else they could do. Hurting others was their life, as if that made their pride gain in many.

He couldn't stop trembling, watching his best friend get hurt like that made him feel like he was the one getting hurt. He couldn't imagine the pain the other was going through; the other's small and light body barely able to hold up itself.

Blood was spilling from the other's body, and all he could do was watch.

He finally decided, after some time of just watching, waiting, and hurting, to do something. He ran up to them and fought back to protect his best friend. It didn't take long for them to fall, though he felt tired and weak as well. He ran up to what now looked like a little, broken rag doll and began to shake him.

"Wake up!" He yelled into the other's ear, and finally after a while, the other opened his eyes and locked them with his. It was like they were having a silent conversation between minds that only they could hear.

The other put his bloody, pale hand up to his face. It felt cold, different than before. He was worried for the other, he wanted to do something and help, but he couldn't do anything. He couldn't fix the other's broken bones anymore, he had been too late.

"You'll be alright, I promise. Remember, tomorrow? We're going to go see that concert that you really like, remember? I bought you those VIP passes, and then we were going to go see fireworks at the…" his sentence faded as the other smiled. The other smiled so brightly, a true smile that he had never seen before. "Come on… don't give me that…" He soon found that his vision went blurry as tears fell from them. The piercing suddenness of the cold that found its way down his face was agonizing, breaking him into pieces. The other didn't talk, move his head, or anything besides smile at him.

He stared at the other, and the other stared back.

The other is falling, while he is only watching.

The two of them lay silence in their own humanity, one is them is dying and one of them is living.
