If I Were to Fail You
If I Were to Fail You
Disclaimer: Anything Zelda related belongs to Nintendo. Dur.
A/N: Actually found this sitting on my computer. Old story idea I had, I may start tinkering with it again. I liked the idea I had. Anyways, if anyone reads this, this little Zelda story will be my take on the events leading to what happened in Wind Waker. You know, the tragic whole flooding thing. Except, my take on that, added with another little adventure for Link to travel on. First chapter is a little corny, but ah well.
Prologue: The Promise
~*~
"You called Princess?"
Zelda turned around, hearing that familiar voice echo amongst the lush foliage of the royal garden. Her eyes connected with the soft, bright blue eyes of her loyal Knight. Link stood before her, bowing slowly, his light brown hair falling over his slender ears. She frowned, moving to him quickly, hands on his chest pushing him back up to normal stature.
"Will you stop doing that!?" She snapped, glaring at him.
He took a step backwards, alarmed. "Sorry Princess." he replied, a weak smile on his young face.
"That to!" Zelda sighed, pushing Link's hair behind his ears, his face froze and flushed a light pink. "Anyways," Zelda spun around, her dress dancing around her slim figure. Link followed obediently, watching as she seemed to dance across the marble walkway. She came to a white stoned bench, she sat down pulling her long violet dress from under. Her eyes instantly meeting her feet, with a blank, forlorn glow.
Link sat down next to her, face flowered, shifting around for his eyes to meet with hers. His eyebrows rose, curving, concern on his face. "My Princess?" he asked, lifting his hand carefully, a quick finger pushed back a stray strain of golden hair away from her delicate face. He smiled as her eyes met his.
Zelda smiled softly, closing her eyes. "Thank you."
"You called, Princess?" he repeated again, his smile peeked into a smirk.
She tried to smile, but it broke into a displeased frown. She attempted to reassure him, but couldn't. "I need you to aid a far away country."
"Where and why?"
"To a place called Runia. I've had a few dreams about this place…and I sense an impending danger. Will you go for me, and aid them if necessary?"
"Of course." Link stood up from his seat, and folded an arm across his chest. "For you, anything. I will represent myself as head Knight thusly in Runia, and fight whatever evil plagues them, and give them any aid they are in need of." Link proudly puffed his chest, listening to Zelda lightly chuckle. He did the same, sticking his tongue out. Zelda gazed up at her loyal knight, trying to smile more sincerely. "Cheer up, please? Come on, if you don't smile like you mean it, I might just bow. I know you hate that."
Zelda chuckled, and stood to his side. "And I might kick you."
Link frowned, taking a large cautious step backwards. "Ow. Heels hurt far worse than any damage a Moblin could cause…" he moaned with remorse.
"Will you be heady by dawn tomorrow?"
"If my Princess commands it." Link replied, placing a hand on Zelda's shoulder. "Come now, I don't know what's gotten into you. But cheer up. Don't tell me you're going to miss me?" Link began to laugh again, but cut off in surprise to feel Zelda wrap her arms around his waist, head buried against his stomach. "Uhh…Princess?"
"Just be careful. Not because you're Hyrule's leading knight, but because you're my best friend."
"Of course, anything for you…"
