Author's Note: This is my take on how the scene should have been written. It's very short, but I hope you like it!
Behind the Trailer
"I'm fine," Andy kept repeating as she allowed herself to get pulled behind the trailer. Her ribs gave a small ache of protest when her back was firmly but gently pushed against it.
She looked into Sam's face and repeated, "I'm fine," this time with more compassion as she saw the look on his face. He placed his hands on her face, turning it so that he could see for himself that she wasn't hurt. He ran his finger through her hair and then rested his forehead against hers.
"I have never been so scared in my life," he whispered, agony and relief evident in his voice.
"Sam, please, I'm fine."
He pulled her against him, carefully wrapping his arms around her. He placed soft kisses on her hair, whispering, "I know, McNally, I know."
Andy allowed herself to relax in his embrace, quietly soaking in his strength. Sam pulled back slightly and as Andy looked up at him, he placed a gentle kiss on her lips. The kiss had no sexual tension in it, it had none of the passion that they'd shared that one night that neither of them spoke of. No, this kiss brought tears to Andy's eyes because the kiss told her exactly how much compassion, care, concern and, yes, love that Sam had for her. Sam lifted his lips from hers and gently wiped the tear that had rolled down her cheek.
"Thank you," she whispered, "for knowing what I needed."
"I needed it too," he said, running his hands through her hair.
Andy bit her lip and with regret said, "But..."
"I know," Sam said, his eyes clouding over.
Andy looked away, not wanting to see the hurt on her partner's face. It took a second for her to understand what her eyes were seeing. "Sam..." when he didn't respond right away, she repeated more urgently, "Sam!"
Sam turned around and saw the flash of metal as the teenager turned away. "You have got to be kidding me!"
