I Am Here
He should not be here. He really should not be here. Martin glanced over his shoulder. The lights of Anvil were gentle, only torches and starlight guided his path. He could only see the one guard near the gate. That was good, it meant they had not realised he was gone yet. He was breaking a lot of rules, rules they had expected him to abide by. As if.
Soon he reached the house and quietly slipped in. He hurried up to the bedroom, taking the stairs two at a time. It had taken him nearly a year to find out where she had gone. They had refused to tell him of her fate, saying that she was a mortal, hence beneath him, and that he was now one of them. Yet he didn't see it that way. Martin had pleaded his case saying he only wanted to see her just the once to make sure she was well. But they didn't listen.
So he had decided to do it behind their backs. Hours of research had turned into days and months as he tried to trace her path. She had left Cyrodil completely so she could heal without the constant reminders. Only recently she had returned and Martin was not going to let them kept him away from her.
His heart soared when he laid his eyes on her. She was curled up in the bed, blankets surrounding her like a fort. She always curled up like a cat. Her hair messed up and somewhat knotted. Martin smiled, she hadn't changed one bit at all. Nor would he ever want her to. Something hot and wet then trailed down his cheeks. Briefly he cursed himself, he had promised himself he wouldn't cry.
Picking up his courage, Martin went to the over side of the bed and lay next to her. After an internal conflict, he too curled up, gently tucking her into the crook of his body. He had no idea how long he lay there, stroking her hair and cheek, tears rolling down his cheeks. He hated himself for leaving her, but it had been the only way to save her, to keep her safe. Soon he realised he had spent too long there. The sun peeking though the window. The others would have realised his absence by now. He leaned over and whispered into her ear.
"I'm sorry, my love. I'm sorry for leaving you behind. I had to do it, to keep Tamirel safe, to keep you safe. I do not know if you can hear me, but I will always love you, you're what kept me going during the crisis, even when everything seemed impossible. I will promise you this, when it is your time to leave this world, I will be there for you, I will help guide you." He then gently pressed his lips against the scar on her cheek. A sleepy giggle came from her. The same giggle that always made him smile even in the most direst of times. Then he planted a farewell kiss on her lips. "I am here, always."
Martin then took off his amulet. The one that had been given to him when he had joined the Chapel of Akatosh. She would know what it was and what it meant. After placing the small, simplistic amulet into her palm, Martin reluctantly left the house, intent on keeping his promise to her.
Just innocent fluff, BTW this is not connected at all to my other Elder scrolls story.
