A beautiful Heaven, filled with amazing creatures and happiness beyond all that anyone could ever have desired.
That is what awaited him.
That is what he had.
What every man dreamed of.
And yet...yet, he missed it.
He missed Earth.
He missed his friends, his parents, his school, the taste of ice cream as it melted sweetly in his mouth, the breathtaking wonder of an imperfect sunrise.
He missed it all.
He had thought about it often.
Why he missed it so much.
And he could never answer the question that plagued him so often.
Perhaps it was because of what had happened so long ago, over three hundred Narnian years ago.
Perhaps it was because of that single choice to follow the White Witch, that influenced him still.
Perhaps that human decision, to be selfish, to lie, to steal, kept his humanity alive within him.
Maybe that was why he still longed for something else even though he had everything.
Was it so bad?
To miss what you used to love?
He would look around often and watch his brother and sister playing, a glow surrounding them, a glow so bright that it seemed that nothing less than the light heaven shone down to bless them.
And he would wonder why they never missed anyone.
Why they didn't seem to care.
And he wondered if it was because the vestiges of humanity still rested in his heart, making him miss what should have been meaningless in this world, this world of Heaven.
But he also realized that it was time to let it go, to miss it, mourn it, and then let it fly away like a caged bird in desperate need of freedom.
It was time to remember what he had and smile as he thought of it, not weep at the memories.
Because he was King Edmund, Ruler over all of Narnia, and because he was Edmund Pevensie, grubby little school boy with a sweet tooth for Turkish Delight.
He would let it go, and hope that maybe, in this neverending day of delights, he would lose what he still had in that secret corner of his heart.
But in the meanwhile, he would treasure it.
He would treasure his humanity.
Heyyyy guys, I'm back. :D This is my first ever Narnia fic, lol, so pleeeease no flames, haha. But I would love reviews, they make my day! :]
Thanks so much!
