Disclaimer: The entire series for Harukanaru Toki no Naka de (including the games, various animations, and manga) is owned by Mizuno Tooko and Koei. I merely borrow the characters for a short time.
The story's title translates roughly to "I won't let go".

Tebanasanai

"Wow, it's so pretty..." Nozomi's words trailed off in wonder as they stopped halfway across the pedestrian bridge. Her eyes took in the sunset as Kagetoki watched her profile. He made a small sound of agreement in reply and shoved his right hand in his pocket, remembering his goal for the evening. Their date was nearly at an end and he still hadn't found the right opportunity to bring up a subject that had been on his mind for a long time.

Certain customs in her world were different than where he had come from, and Kagetoki had yet to learn them all. He had, however, done a little research on his current train of thought.

It went like this, didn't it...

Kagetoki pulled his hand out from his pocket, the small box cradled in his palm as his free hand took gentle hold of Nozomi's. She turned to face him as he lowered himself onto one knee like he'd seen the romantic lead do in the drama they had watched together a few days previous. Nozomi's eyes grew impossibly large and a blush painted her cheeks as she looked down at him.

All of Kagetoki's carefully planned words fled him in the face of such a beautiful, adorable picture. Instead he opened the box's lid and asked, voice husky with all the emotion for her that flooded his heart, "Nozomi, marry me?"

She threw her arms around his neck and pressed her face into his shoulder, probably to hide the tears that streamed down her cheeks, but Kagetoki didn't mind because he had started to cry too. "Yes," came her choked but strong reply and Kagetoki found he could breathe again. His arms curled around her waist when she pulled away enough to give him a watery but happy smile. "Yes, I will," she repeated.

Cars passed under the bridge and the other pedestrians walked on as Kagetoki stood and embraced her properly with a kiss to seal their promise.
