Hello, once again.
This fanfic is inspired by If You Could Read My Mind by Gordon Lightfoot.
More specifically, the two lines:
If you could read my mind, Love. What a tale my thoughts could tell. Just like an old-time movie. & If you could read my mind, Love. What a tale my thoughts could tell. Just like a paperback novel.
It's written alternating between Tony's and Ziva's point of view, hopefully that's not too confusing and you can work it out.
Enjoy!!!
Tony looked up from his desk and directly over at his partner opposite. She was focused on the computer screen slightly to her left on the desk. He had work he was meant to be doing, but he couldn't keep his eyes off Ziva. Tony had known for quite some time that he had feelings towards her. But he was still unable to find out exactly what they were. They were complicated and varying, each one he could relate to a different movie he had seen.

He didn't know whether his feelings were simply lust, or something much more.
He didn't know whether his feelings were even real, or if Ziva was just like any other girl he met.
She didn't know if what she felt towards Tony was friendship, or something much greater.
She didn't know if what she felt towards Tony was real, or something simply generated by her mind.

The two of them certainly had a unique relationship. One might be unsure what to refer to it as. They got off to an interesting start when she first arrived. Tony smiled at the fact that their first words to each other were regarding phone sex. This happiness was soon erased by the events that caused her to come on her first visit to NCIS.

He knew that he should make something of what they have, but didn't know if he should make a move.
He was afraid. And unlike the old Tony, not afraid to admit it. He had believed he lost her and grew emotionally as a result. He was a changed man.

"DiNozzo!" Gibbs called out, snapping Tony out of his headspace.
"Sorry, Boss." He said and went back to work, but not before stealing one last glance at Ziva.

"Sorry, Gibbs." She said and went back to work, but not before stealing one last glance at Tony.
Gibbs shook his head in disappointment.
"Damn agents," he said, "Can't even focus for fifteen minutes."
Well, that's it.
I hope you enjoyed it.
I apologise if the switching between characters was confusing.
In case you still don't get it, it went Tony to Ziva and then continued in that pattern.
Review please! =D
