Sara reached over and grabbed her dad's helmet. She touched it and closed her eyes willing the tears that were falling already away. But it didn't work. Dad had been distant but she knew he loved them. And now he was…gone. She started crying hard then. Her only audience was SAM. But he didn't say anything. Sara didn't know what to do now. Scott was in a coma, and her dad was gone. She was alone and she now had a huge task on her shoulders.
"I can't do this dad," she whispered through her tears. "I can't."
"Sara?" a voice Sara knew well said from the doorway. Sara sat up and wiped her tears looking away as she set down the helmet.
She looked up and saw Dr. Harry Carlyle. "Harry," Sara tried to force a smile but she knew it looked forced when he frowned at her.
"I came to check in on you," Harry said. He walked over to her and sat down on the bed behind her. She didn't know if it was on purpose or not but she was thankful not to look directly at him.
"Your dad was a great man," Harry said quietly.
"He was," Sara felt the lump in her throat and the pain she felt behind her eyes when she tried to keep herself from crying.
"Are you okay?" Harry asked.
Sara was quiet for a moment. Not sure if she trusted her voice.
"It's okay if you're not Sara," Harry whispered and he touched her back. "You just lost someone."
Sara looked back at him and saw the sympathy in his eyes. She knew he had to tell a fair share of people that their loved one was dead. "I'm not," Sara whispered. The tears came again. "I'm not okay."
Harry pulled her to him and Sara cried into his chest. She wasn't sure how long they stayed like that but her name being paged made her move. "I'm sorry," Sara whispered and wiped her eyes.
"Don't apologize," Harry said. Sara looked up at him and he smiled softly down at her. He wiped the last of her tears away and nodded. "Always take the time for yourself Sara. I don't know what all is ahead of you but I know if you don't do that you'll lose yourself."
"Thank you, Harry," Sara nodded. "For everything."
"Anytime," Harry smiled at her. He watched her leave SAM Node and he sighed. He had known them before the trip to Andromeda and his heart hurt for the loss all of them had experienced when Alec had died but most of all of Sara and Scott.
