-Three years prior-
John ran back to his friends, his newly found treasure in hand.
"Guys! You won't believe what I just found!"
"Is it a turtle?" Herc asked, unable to keep the curiosity out of his voice.
"Nope! I wish it was, though. I found this!" John opened his hand to reveal four necklaces, each with a small, round charm. "I was thinking we could all keep one. Maybe they're magic."
Hercules scoffed. "There's no such thing as magic." He said, with a glance at Alex. "I don't care what your books say." He paused. "But I will still have one just in case."
"Okay, but I call the water one!"
"I call fire!" Alex yelled.
Herc looked at the two other charms. One had a leaf, and the other a cloud. "I want the leaf one."
"That means you get the cloud, Laf!"
"Okay."
John handed out the treasure, now a token of their friendship.
-Present day-
The same four friends sat at their shared desk in math. Lafayette and Hercules were talking, Alexander was trying unsuccessfully to stay awake, and John was drawing. All in all, just a normal first period.
After school, they all gathered at the cafe to figure out what homework was important, what could be ignored, and what to do with their time. John suggested a hike through the woods near his house, so after finishing their homework (or rather, copying Alex's homework that he finished during lunch), the quartet set out.
A/N: Hi! Thanks for reading this! Feel free to comment and whatnot. It's all up to you. I cut this chapter a bit short because I wanted this to be a bit of a prologue (and I'm honestly not all that good with transitions). I hope you enjoyed! I'll try to update weekly, but until then, keep Creating! Bye!
