Excerpt: So he ignores the way Clark looks at him with disapproving eyes. Ignores the way Dick's mouth gets tight and thin. Ignores the way Damian goes completely silent, disappearing as soon as he can. Ignores the way Jason goes out of his way to avoid them, avoid him. Ignores all disapproval. It's easier that way than fighting for what he wants. He doesn't want to fight them on this.
Clark doesn't approve. Neither does the rest of the League but Bruce couldn't care. Not when Tim is his. Tim. His partner. Because Tim has always been his partner, his equal - maybe even his greater. Tim would never have been his son.
It's probably wrong. No, he knows it is. But Bruce is selfish. He wants this for himself. Tim is everything Bruce has ever wanted and ever hated. Tim is everything. He feels it when he holds him close. Presses his lips to Tim's. Strokes burning, aching paths down Tim's flanks - tracing the bumps and scars and marks that are purely Tim.
So he ignores the way Clark looks at him with disapproving eyes.
Especially since he gets his second chance. He never thought he'd get to tell Tim he loved him. Not after Darkseid and the hyper-adapter. He's not sure he would have come back had it not been for Tim. It was Tim's eyes really. His eyes made it easier to think past everything, to focus.
The knife slides in between two of his ribs. It doesn't hurt as much as the look in Tim's eyes. It screams desperation, pain, terror and hopelessness.
"I'm sorry."
Bruce watches as Ra's al Ghul appears on the screen. He says something about how the rest of Bruce's family is safe now. In that moment Bruce understands. He understands, pulling Tim close, pressing his bloody lips to Tim's. Tracing down Tim's back to his hips.
"I love you."
He really does. But he's glad his sons won't be dying because of him. Bruce knows that Ra's would follow through. He looks at Tim's eyes then, his fingers trailing a bloody path down the pale face in front of him. "I love you."
There are tears pooling in Tim's eyes - his gorgeous blue eyes. His life-saving eyes.
"I love you."
The tears make streaks through the blood. A soft noise escapes Tim's lips. It's not a sob - not a keen either - but it's close. It's close.
"I love you."
"I'm so sorry Bruce. I lo-"
He's glad that if he's dying now - on Ra's' orders - that Tim is the last thing he sees.
I love you Tim.
