Black Butterflies.

Disclaimer: I don't own Loveless, which is okay by me.

"You must really like butterflies!"
"Butterflies? ..." Soubi gave me a look to inform me that he most certainly didn't.
"Ah... I see... Why do you dislike it? It's beautiful."
"I dislike it because it's beautiful. Because it's a bug no one would think of catching it. I hate how it let's itself get caught easily. Having it's body pierced with pins, becoming a specimen... I dislike this too." I winced as the words left his mouth, with the eerie sound of a pain accepted.
"...Is that the butterflies fault?"

I could not understand these sentences at first. I could only think the same question, is that really the butterflies fault? But I've come to see that it does not matter where the fault lies, the result is going to be as it is, no matter who's fault it may have been. Blame is only relevant for the future. Butterflies are beyond a future.

They grace us with their beauty, and in their naivety are stolen, taken from what they may consider their home, or maybe home is but a passing thought in the mind of a butterfly. Either way they are stolen, but who's to miss a butterfly, there are so many, what is the loss of one.

But that one will have been stolen and lost forever to the world, except to the world of one, who will take this delicate blessing of beauty, and covet it. This one has taken this butterfly and claimed it as its own. It's taken its fragile body, held its wings within its hands, and stolen its being, slowly stealing away its life, breath by breath, second by second.

The wings stop flittering, the life stops living, and now you have the shell of a beauty that used to be. Now it is but an ornament with which to decorate your walls. The butterfly is just a specimen, to pin to a board with your shiny silver needles. Hands clinical, cold, coveting, have robbed this creature of everything.

Even it's beauty. The butterfly is now given a label, a scientific name, and placed amongst butterflies rivaling its beauty, thus it is no longer special. It will be coveted, along with all of the butterflies, pinned to the wall, and when its owner leaves, it is left in a cold dark room, all alone.

And now I can understand. I can understand why you hate butterflies, and I can't help but hate them equally. So full of tragic flaws.

So I hope you liked it! Suddenly I was jumped by the thought of Soubi hating butterflies, which I had never understood, and all of the sudden I understood it.
And thus this was born.
Doesn't it make you feel all melancholy?
