Fic One
For: Edmondia
Request: Something green.
Anzu had once heard her mother use the phrase 'Salad Days' when referring to her youth. Your Salad Days were when everything was supposed to be fresh and new – you were wet behind the ears, a little green, a little innocent, and living your life without the stamp of cynicism on you. Your Salad Days lasted until you figured out that the world was, in actuality, a miserable place, filled with pain, frustration and unfairness.
Anzu wondered if they were still in their Salad Days – she, Yuugi, Jounouchi, and Honda. They'd been through far more than people their age, reached unparalleled heights, crashed into more metaphysical walls and scraped more barrels than she cared to think about. She liked to think they were. She liked to think that even though they'd seen the worst of what life had to offer (hel-lo Dartz slash Pegasus slash Malik slash Bad Guy of the Week), they'd also seen the best.
Salad stayed greener for longer if you dashed it with water now and again.
Fic Two
For: Inami
Request: Chicken
"So … what exactly are we eating?" Jounouchi looked apprehensively at his plate.
"Chicken, I think," Honda replied. He poked at something vermilion. "Or maybe frogs' legs. I'm not sure."
"It's chicken," Yuugi said firmly. He hadn't even picked up his chopsticks yet, and was waiting politely for Anzu to return from her kitchen. "She went grocery shopping this morning."
"She shopped especially for us?" Jounouchi's trepidation turned to uncomfortable surprise. "Aw, man, that means we gotta say it's great even if it tastes like crap."
Yuugi frowned. "But Anzu said to be brutally honest - "
"Yuugi, you got a lot to learn about women."
