Preface

I hit the ground with a loud thud. "Is that all that you've got?" I heard him call in a mocking voice. With the wind whipping through my hair, I lunged for his face. I missed. He was too quick for me, too smart. I was furious at him. He was the enemy, my target, not... I couldn't even think about that right now. My mind belonged to the fight, for now. Lifting myself off the ground, I tried to develop some tactics. He...the enemy, was circling me. Sneering, he whispered "want to try again? Or are you giving up?" I glared at him. I felt like screaming out 'never!', but honestly, I really wanted to just lie down and close my eyes. I couldn't think properly, and I needed to talk to someone. I looked up and breathed out "why?", his frown replaced his sneer and he looked away. "you know why." He replied, and I was surprised he knew what I was talking about. "yes, I do." I paused. "but do you?". He looked up, hesitated, and said, loud and clear "I don't know Renesmee." I moved closer, looking him in the eyes, searching deeper than I had ever been before. "What happened, Alec?"
