A/N: I had written this as the first part to a longer series but it failed to launch and this was the only bit I was proud of. I just love these two! There's so much to play with.
I don't own Power Rangers and I certainly do not profit off these few words of mine. Enjoy!
"If I meet
you suddenly, I can't
speak—my tongue is broken;
a thin flame runs under
my skin" – Sappho
...
A new beginning. Karone looks around her, filled suddenly with an overwhelming surge of awe. She doesn't know what's happened, can't remember and her mind is blank. She feels the warmth of hands on her shoulders, her arms, and the faces are familiar but she doesn't understand how she came to be like this, lying on the ground with her brother above her, holding her hand tight.
She smiles because she feels happy, but she doesn't know why.
Andros has been crying, she can see it in his face. The others are smiling, laughing at their good fortune. She keeps smiling even when she catches a glimpse of the masses; hundreds of people looking on, some she recognises but most are strangers.
There is an ominous weight above them, behind her, and Karone turns her head to see what it is. Her Dark Fortress, she sees, looms high yet grounded, its landing like some stairway to a dark world.
She feels the hands peel away from her and hover in hesitation, and when she looks back at the group they continue smiling but now with a hint of uncertainty. Carlos and TJ step back, while Cassie sits back on her heels. Ashley remains close to her, but Karone can feel the remnants of fear drift from her.
The weight of some kind of darkness threatens to consume her, dread feeding its way into her an aching place, but as the group begins to fade off, a figure of light comes closer. His silver-tipped hair catches her eye, then his look pierces her heart.
He stands before her, an angel with a devil grin, and before she knows what's happening he takes her hand and pulls her up gently. She barely feels when Andros releases her other hand.
The haunting sensation of déjà vu plagues her with a feeling she isn't quite sure of, and with her hand firmly secured in his, she lets herself be drawn into the magic that surrounds them.
