I do not own Fullmetal Alchemist. I just enjoy writing about the characters.

A wave of sadistic pleasure washed over the Flame Alchemist nearly as hot as the physical flames produced by the deceptively simple gesture that was his signature move. The creature being consumed by the firestorm screamed in agony as it died and regenerated over and over.

It had made the fatal mistake of confessing to the murder of Brigadier General Maes Hughes to that man's best friend. As the homunculus laughed maniacally at the pain and suffering it had caused, a veil of crimson had fallen over Roy Mustang's vision. His alchemy was well suited for precise torture, allowing him to apply the fire to incredibly painful locations such as the eyes and tongue.

His entire focus was on the enemy before him, the one who had callously murdered a man under the guise of his own wife. Nothing could penetrate the revenge his mind had devised. In the back of his head, he vaguely registered that Riza was trying to stop him, but his bloodlust erased the sound of her voice.

He glared down at the broken creature that was gasping on the ground. His punishing flames had pounded relentlessly at its immortality until it had no more souls to regenerate, leaving only the small container with the Philosopher's Stone.

The miniscule insect that was once a powerful enemy had only its silver tongue for a weapon now. This proved ineffective since his target was not an innocent girl but a hardened warrior. The colonel was deaf to any pleas of mercy, only able hear the blood pounding in his head.

His fingers were poised to snap, the still pristine gloves almost glowing in the smoky corridor. The transmutation circle, carefully sewn with scarlet thread reminiscent of blood, was unmarred and prepared to complete its deadly work.

In the momentary silence before the final explosion that would utterly obliterate the pathetic creature before him, a tiny sound could be distinguished behind him. The cocking of a pistol was unmistakable as Lieutenant Hawkeye held it level to his eyes.

Her long-ago promise came to the forefront of his mind and his hand dropped at the anguish in her brown eyes. The guilt crashed down on him as he realized what he had done and how far he had been gone. It brought back memories of Ishbal that had once driven him to the edge of madness and suicide.

After his flashbacks, he was forced to watch as the homunculus committed suicide, an escape that had been denied to him once by Maes and now again by his lieutenant and the newly arrived Fullmetal Alchemist. It would have to wait until after this battle.

I know this probably isn't exact to the episode, but I have only seen this episode once. ~Amaya
