'What ARE Your Favorite Things?'
One day my brother asked of me,
a rather surprising query:
"Sister, why are your books so cherished,
and kept under lock and key?
What are they so prized-"
Then, to my surprise,
"What ARE your favorite things
about 'The Lord of the Rings'?
Is it the fights, friends, and feasts,
or the strange and wondrous beasts?
Could it be the hobbits, those cute little guys,
or the men, who aren't always wise.
Maybe the dwarves, that sturdy race,
or the elves, so full of grace?
What are your favorite things
about 'The Lord of the Rings'?"
For a lengthy time I thought,
then thought some more.
My brother, I'm afraid,
I was starting to bore.
Suddenly I stopped,
and then I smiled.
"Brother, I've sat and thought,
for a very long while.
And at last I've decided,
why they are so prize-ed.
I love ALL the things,
in 'The Lord of the Rings.'
The orcs are quite nasty,
yes, it is true.
The Ringwraiths I wouldn't like to meet,
and neither would you.
The hobbits can be amusing,
the elves can be confusing.
The dwarves are often proud,
and the men are very loud.
But still, they're all my favorite things,
in my favorite book: 'The Lord of the Rings'!"
