"Hey Evans!"
Lily groaned. What did he want this time? She whirled around and stomped over to him, eyes narrowed accusingly. "What Potter?" she snarled. "Don't waste my time."
James took a couple of steps back and put his hands up in a gesture of surrender. "Calm down! I just wanted to tell you that…" he faltered.
"Yes?" Lily asked impatiently.
"Oh, bugger it!" he said, and before Lily could do anything, he grabbed her by the shoulders and pressed his lips to hers.
Lily was so stunned that she couldn't do anything. Once she could actually process what was going on, she realized something.
She was enjoying it!
So she just rolled her eyes and kissed him back.
They didn't get very far before they were interrupted by a chorus of whoops from above them. Lily looked up to see the rest of the Marauders standing on the balcony above. Sirius was jumping around and whooping like he had been kissed by her, not James.
Looking closer, she saw Peter holding out some mistletoe. And suddenly, it all made sense.
"So, James, what was it you wanted to tell me?" Lily smirked when he blushed and mumbled something unintelligible.
"I can't hear you!" she crowed in victory.
But she was taken by surprise as James kissed her passionately again, and murmured against her lips,
"I love you, Lily Evans."
