Yasu hummed as he applied paint to Mai's face. She fidgeted again and he shook his head.

"Why can't you practice on someone else?"

"We're painting kids' faces at the party, Mai-chan. I need to practice on someone close to their size."

"It's not my fault I'm small."

"I didn't say it was."

"Are you done yet? It's been over an hour."

"Can't you stay still for an hour?" Mai glared at him. "That's okay. I'm almost done." Yasu started humming again while Mai tried to hold still. Fifteen minutes later, Yasu claimed he was done.

"I think I've got a feel now for the paint. Can I take a picture so I can show what I can do?" Mai nodded slowly, afraid movement would mess up her face. Yasu turned around to hide a grin. She would kill him when she saw her face. He took a lot of pictures, zooming in on the individual smaller designs as well as the full design that covered her entire forehead. He clicked through some of the smaller images to show her the designs.

"Mai, tea," Naru's voice floated to her desk.

"Just a minute, Naru. We're almost done," Mai yelled. She heard him moving about in his office and opening his door, but she refused to look his way. She was helping Yasu and her boss could wait a bit for once.

"I have asked for tea three times in the last fifteen minutes. When will you two be done?"

"Oh, I'm done, big boss. Mai, let him see what a great job I did." Mai turned around, her face smiling brightly. Naru's eyes widened as he read the words on her forehead. He looked at Yasu who was shaking, trying not to laugh out loud.

"Mai, do you know what Yasu put on your face?"

"He was practicing so he can paint small things on the children's faces at the orphanage this weekend. There are hearts and flowers and . . ." Naru walked up to her and took a few pictures of her face, then showed her one. Mai's eyes got big. She turned toward the front door as it jingled, indicating Yasu was gone.

"I'm going to kill him." Mai yelled at the door.

"No, you're not. You should know not to trust him by now."

"Ug. I don't know how to get it off."

"It looks fine to me. Now, Mai, tea."

"But Naru . . ."

"You can get me tea or I can do what your forehead says, Mai. What is it telling me?" Mai hung her head.

"Naru's Toy."
