I am still reeling from last night's episode and just had to find a way to respond. This is it. Hopefully, what we saw was a beginning and not an end for them!
**So, funny thing...this story should really be called "Eight Words" as Caroline actually says "I know that you're in love with me." I can't decide if I should change it or just leave it as is. This is what happens when you try to write/publish quickly before taking a trip.
"I know you love me."
Klaus shakes his head, an attempt to stop the endless cycle of Caroline's voice saying those five words. Those five words that tore down a thousand years of stone around his heart. She knows.
Admittedly, he hadn't done a very good job of keeping it a secret, what with his "I fancy you" and sketch books full of drawings of her smile, following her around like a lost puppy, pleading, no, begging for a date all the while she's playing at distraction as her friends plot his death.
With just a few words, she snags his hatred at Elena and Jeremy away and makes him forget about Kol's burned body lying just feet away from him. One look from her pain-filled eyes and his revenge against his annoying first-born is forgotten and he's practically crying.
How is it that this one girl can turn his life upside down? He lets out a bark of laughter laced with irony as he remembers taunting Stefan with almost those same words, mocking his love for Elena.
She's asleep now, his Caroline. Having drank from him to the point of weakness, she finally passed out, her body giving in to the healing that it needed. Between staking her with the coat rack and then biting into her soft, pale skin filling her blood with poison, she had been through the ringer. He touches his lips, recalling for a moment the sweet taste of her blood as he allowed himself just enough so that he'd never forget the taste of it. It was everything she was, sweet, yet spicy. A burst of light through his body that almost consumed him as he tried to stay stoic and bored in the face of his enemy.
As he watched her sleep, he marveled at the fact that he didn't know what came next. Surely Tyler would be rushing through the door at any moment, panting like the puppy he was, demanding to know how Caroline fared. He growled, knowing that killing Lockwood was not an option, at least not right now. As it was, he knew when Caroline awoke she'd walk right out the Gilberts' front door with the pup, not even glancing his way.
No, she'd walk away, leaving him alone with his brother, but she'd be back. Now that she had acknowledged his love, and by extension, the humanity that still lived somewhere deep inside of him, she wouldn't be able to ignore her feelings for him. She'd as much as said that she wanted to forgive him, to forget the terrible, horrible things he'd done. She also knew he was right when he'd pointed out that they were even, Carol Lockwood's life for Kol's. If you counted Finn's for Jenna's, hell, he had a clean slate, he thought, his eyes rolling.
As he heard the sound of footsteps on the porch, Klaus bent down and stroked Caroline's hair, relishing this last moment with her. As he forced down the instinct to rip out Tyler's heart, he gently picked up the young woman who had made him feel for the first time in a thousand years, placed a lingering kiss on her forehead and turned to hand Caroline, his heart, over to his enemy.
Let me know what you thought about this! Thanks for reading.
