Skitch felt nervous

**Please note that Skitch isn't me… and she isn't a mary sue either, I'm just completely unoriginal and I couldn't think up a better name. So live with it… oh yeah, Brownie points to those who can make a good guess at who the guy was modled after!**

Skitch felt nervous. The butterflies that filled her stomach were more along the lines of humming birds and her heart was a hammer. She paced slowly under the tree her hands fidgeting mercilessly. She only stopped every once and awhile to fill her lungs with the cool fall air in an attempt to calm her nerves. Time crept by slower than a snail, each minute passing in what seemed like an hour. Chilled faces of passing wanderers ignored the girl as they hurried through the cold toward their homes with the fireplaces. She glanced suspiciously at each face, hoping to see the blue eyes hidden behind glasses, the round nose, soft completion and blonde hair that made the appearance of whom she was looking for. She wrapped her scarf tighter around her neck and breathed into her hands for warmth. An orange leaf floated softly to the ground next to her and blew across the grass. She spoke to herself in a quiet mumbled whisper as she paced. It was getting darker by the moment and the full moon was coming up over the bay lighting the street with a soft glow. The people passed, but with less regularity now and the faces weren't as cheerful anymore as they were rosy with chill and worried with hurry. The girl rubbed her hands together as the street lamp on the corner flickered on. Skitch turned to watch the light struggle to stay alit and let her gaze fall from the lamp to the figure below. He stood against the post with his scarf billowing out in the wind. His cigarette puffed into the air above him and in a glance he snuffed the butt under his boot. The slight turn of his head let a glimmer of light catch the girl's eye as it bounced off his glasses. He turned away from her as she started towards him.
She called out the name of whom she was waiting for.

"I'm sorry miss, I'm not who you're looking for." The man replied coolly as she drew nearer. He walked away as if it were nothing.

She stared at him as he strolled off, a trestle of hair blowing in front of her face. The flickering light only added to the sorrow that was evident in her eye. She let her arms fall to her sides and her head hung low. The soft wind came to comfort, wrapping its cool arms around her. A few dark leaves danced across the street making her feel even more alone than before. A light weight set upon her shoulder causing her to turn. She let her eyes roam from the dark chestnut shoes and gray worn pants up to the black overcoat with its crude loose buttons. A gray scarf was tucked in the front of the coat and a hat was pulled over the brow of the boy who stood in front of her. She found the warmth she longed for in his strong blue eyes behind the thin-framed spectacles. He reached with his hand and brushed away the hair that had flown in front of her face before they both leaned into a quick embrace. Her lips curled up on the sides as the light above shorted out completely. He buried his nose in her hair as she drew a large breath,
breathing in the scent she had missed for so long. Without a word they stood in the darkness. Frozen in time at the mercy of the wind.
